Umbrellas

I am looking for an umbrella that is not going to blow inside out in the wind, not going to rip, preferably that comes in a bright design (to cheer up the crappy weather and help me not to lose it!) and preferably costs less than £20 (in case I do lose it and have to buy another).

Anyone got any recommendations, I have been looking on Amazon but don't think I have seen any without a combination of 1-star and 5-star reviews.

Who knew buying an umbrella could be so complicated? :D

I've had my current umbrella for almost six years and it has not yet let me down by blowing inside out, ripping or the metal bits bending or coming away from the material, so I can definitely recommend it! I have never had an umbrella which has lasted this long without any problems and it does have a bright design.

I hope that the umbrellas are still as good quality as the one I bought. I have the Minilite telescopic umbrella, which is within the price range you mention.

I got one of these as a present a couple of years ago. Sadly I left it in the pub but it was easily the best umbrella I have ever had.

I think most of the newspapers run that offer sure I've seen it in other places too.

I've got a cheap one - it's one of those 'dome' ones in clear plastic with black spots on it.. Had it a couple of years now and never let me down!
I've also got a smaller handbag one from Primark - cost about a fiver!

If you don't mind a full size brolly these:

are close to indestructable. It is even safe to use in a lightening storm.

I thought about a birdcage style as I like those and you can see through them, however the ones I've had have always bent. I think I might get a few different ones :o

    Thanks for the help :)

I've got one of these and overall they're pretty good but you can sometimes end up with rain coming through the wind flaps...

How about a Pyrenean shepherd's umbrella?

Nick Crane used to use one on some of his expeditions:

I fear they cost rather more than £20, though! :D

Cheap umbrellas are a false economy!

I paid £2.99 for a piece of tat from Ebay that was inside out before I even left my doorstep.

I did have a big, plastic dome one but metal frame broke and every time I put the umbrella down part of the metal poked through the plastic and made a hole :o

I have just ordered this http://www.fultonumbrellas.com/shop/info_L449_black.html

Glad to hear Fulton had been recommended on here lol.

I am in the market for something that can go in a bag, is durable and not too expensive, so this thread has been very useful

They certainly are. I have an M&S one which was £15 from the Per Una range. It feels and looks like good quality.

Never had that on mine. The flaps are pretty tightly closed.

I only ever buy cheap umbrellas now as I'm always losing them. I'll just put them down somewhere then walk off forgetting that I had it.

I do well to keep an umbrella for 6 days never mind 6 years.
