Were they ever a 'make' at all?, or was it just a badged name even back then?, as I think 'Sherwood' was for Richer Sounds as well.

Richer Sounds sold Sherwood gear but I don't think it was just made/badged for them, I remember seeing them at Audiovision Brighouse, I was tempted by their products once but stuck with Denon - I believe they are still in production.

So 4-8ohms speakers are alright to use on this Amp?

No. The image of the back of the amp says 8-16 ohms.

You might get away with 6ohm speakers but 4 is probably too low.

6 ohms will work, but your amp will be working a bit harder to drive them than it was probably designed for.

If you are using 6ohm speakers at normal/moderate volumes they should be OK. but your amp may run a bit warmer and use more power than usual so if you were to use them don't stack other separates on top, and don't sit the amp in an enclosed hifi cabinet.

4ohm speakers will, in all likelihood, burn out your amp eventually, especially at anything more than lowish volumes. Your amp might be OK with speakers rated at that low an impedance, but I wouldn't take the chance personally as you risk serious damage if it can't handle them.

There's a huge range of 8ohm speakers available, so stick to them to be on the safe side and avoid overheating and damage to your amp.

I meant to be used for the Amp.

Yes, I won't be able to put the volume at max or somewhere around that level as it'll be in a small room rather than in the living room.

Though, is there any inexpensive Amp that I could look at in case I decide to actually build a full system.

Depends how much you want to spend.

For a very, very good quality amplifier at a very reasonable price you could consider this:
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/amplifiers-receivers/cambridge-audio/topaz-am1/camb-topaz-am1-blk

The sound quality actually belies it's low price, it punches way above it's weight. It isn't the loudest, and is fairly basic, but couple it with decent speakers and a decent midrange CD player it will absolutely blow the socks of any similarly priced all in one system in terms of sound quality.

Pair it with something like these for example:
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/cd-players/cambridge-audio/topaz-cd5-v4/camb-topaz-cd5-v4-bk
    http://www.richersounds.com/product/cd-players/onkyo/c7030/onky-c7030

Add the Wharfedale or Gale speakers linked to earlier and you have a fairly budget system (around £250 - £270 all in) that your ears will thank you for and it will sound far superior to pretty much any all in one shelf system at around the same price. OK, you wont get all the bells and whistles and fancy lights though.

    Sorry for being a pain..

Is that the lowest price for an Amp? Was hoping to build something around £100 if that's even possible.

CD isn't really necessary as I'm planning to use laptop, desktop and phone rather than playing a CD.

    Depends on whether you want...

    1/New and crap
    2/New and decent
    3/Second hand

If you want option 2 then that is probably the sort of level you would be looking at. If you want option 1 then how cheap do you want to go?

3 gives you the option of getting something decent at not a lot of money. provided you recognise you could end up with a total lemon. But if you are careful and/or lucky you could grab a real bargain.

In that case it'd be 2 and 3 options but without exploding my pocket. What I want is a good-decent system for music and films.

This is probably one of the cheapest half way decent deals going

That's an excellent deal for a budget/lower midrange system.

OP, that is worthy of serious consideration.
It includes everything you need, including the cable to connect to your laptop.

The speakers are fine and the amp is excellent (I've heard them demonstrated at Richer Sounds in Leeds). The speakers are a little lacking in bass for me personally but they are pretty decent and for new kit I don't think you'll get better for that price.

And of course, you can always upgrade to better speakers at a later date.
