I did say this to my OH at the time. :D

It's difficult to discuss without putting ugly spolier blocks all over the place, but I thought it was too simple a motivation,
way out of all proportion to the person it supposedly turned him into and his chosen method of revenge. Isn't being cut lose by MI6 if it serves the greater security of the nation an inherent risk for an agent, and one you'd think they'd accept? Seemed odd he took it so personally.
I know, this is hardly an original concept for a Bond film, but I think I prefer huge, grandiose schemes to at least have a huge, grandiose motive behind them.

On paper I'd agree with you, but Bardem sold it for me. He looked genuinely unhinged enough to think what he was doing was appropriate. After 2 Craig films of bad guys only interested in money/power it was a needed change.

For me it was too much anniversary not enough plot. At times it was almost a parody. It was an enjoyable film don't get me wrong. Glad to see product placement is still alive and well in Bond films. The watch scene in particular.

My problem with Quantum Of Solace is that it was more Jason Bourne than James Bond. Nearly everything you'd expect from a Bond film was missing. Casino Royale and Skyfall just felt like Bond films.

If you watch QOS again its not half bad really, aside from the shaky cam, but it's not what you'd want from a James Bond film.

I still can't get over people saying that Skyfall seemed like an episode of Spooks or a 'made for tv' film. Utterly bizarre criticism to level at it.

Went to see it this afternoon. I don't know if I was more shocked by:
    M dying:eek:
    .
    The Aston Martin being destroyed:eek:
    or
    Judi Dench swearing:eek:
    :D

Watched it last night, I thought it was absolutely excellent.

When people said to me it was better than Casino Royale I wasn't convinced it could be, but it was,

My only criticism, and you see this in other tv and film too, the hidden computer hacker villain, you can seemingly do anything from their PC can get quite tedious. and some of then ending was a bit too 'Home Alone'

but other than that, great film

Not for me! I think I MUCH preferred Casio Royale.

I don't like Daniel Craig and I thought his last two Bond fillms were so bad I did not go! Rather watch them on the TV.

However I have seen Skyfall and it is BRILLANT! Two and a half hours of amazing action, shock and parts of humour!

I shall avoid the London Tube in the future or at least be cautious of it!

See this film, Ten out of Ten! Really good. :)

    Saw it today. Loved it.

One thing, though... Did anyone else find that Javier Bardem made them think of Jar Jar Binks? I think it was his eyes...

My wife turned to me at that point and whispered "Home Alone!" :D

Have you never seen a Bond movie before? It would have been surprising if that hadn't happened!

To be fair Giles Goren's piece was posted as having major spoilers, I can't understand why you'd go round the internet reading stuff about Skyfall without having actually seen the film.

I saw the film first and did not trawl the internet looking for spoilers. Why would I do that? The first time I had heard of this review was on this forum. Others may have read it before seeing the film that is why I said shame on you. However if spoiler warnings had been put out then I apologise.
But please don't jump to conclusions.

These 'Home Alone comments are becoming tiresome.

What, prior to Home Alone there have never been movies where characters are unders siege in a house and improvise weapons and traps to protect themselves?

And do people seriously think the makers of the movie looked to the Home Alone movies for inspiration?

I don't even get the comparison - the Home Alone movies are comedies made for kids and are clearly slapstick style humour and light hearted.

The climax in the Bond movie involves hardened killers determined to Kill Bond and everyone else, and Bond is also determined to kill them in return.

I never once thought of Home Alone...and people who do must have the attention span of a gnat. I saw a tense, well-filmed and exciting climax to a very good movie.

So we can't acknowledge the similar theme and have been paying attention to a film we're enjoying?

Home Alone is probably mentioned instead of those "other films" because they're some of the most well known.

Lets be honest, most of the people making this comment are using it in a negative way.

And it's also the sort of comment designed to draw attention to the poster themselves in a 'Are'nt I clever, I made a funny remark' kind of way.

It's also sad to think that the only movie people can think of with a similar sequence is Home Alone...

I wouldn't call Severine an "abuse victim" and i think that the person who wrote that ill informed sensationalist article obviously wasn't paying much attention to the film. In the scene preceding the shower scene we actually see Severine in her cabin on the boat staring longingly at two glasses and a bottle of wine which she's set up on the table, she's obviously expecting Bond to appear, so it's not like he sneaks on board and "abuses" her against her will like the author of that article is making out.

Dude, if I was any more laid back I would be comatose.

The reason I mentioned it is because I noticed people were 'bandwaggoning', starting to repeat the comments of others re the Home Alone thing, and they all think they are being incredibly witty.

    They're not.

No, it's a public forum and people can say what they want, within reason of course.

But by the same token others also have the freedom to comment and critiscise on those opinions.

And yet I am the one being asked to chill out???

    I loved it:D

I didn't like Casino Royale and Question of Sport but this one had that ever elusive 'Bond' feel.

Very good and I loved the references to earlier Bond films too:D

    The End:)

It was a strange feminist rant (trying to get in the wife's good books?), you can see why it didn't get accepted for print.

The Home Alone comments are pretty daft, i mean if anything it's more along the lines of Straw Dogs (albeit with more explosions). I'm not saying Skyfall ripped off Straw Dogs there by the way, i'm just saying that if people wanted a more relevant comparison then surely it would be Straw Dogs rather than Home Alone.

And other are similarly well within their rights to tell you that you were acting a bit high-and-mighty over a very small issue.

I also thought "well this is a bit like Home Alone" while they were preparing Skyfall Lodge for their guests, I haven't mentioned it until now, I'm not bringing it up to 'seem witty,' it's an unavoidable comparison if you saw Home Alone as a kid, I'm sure if you're a bit older then Straw Dogs would be the one to immediately spring to mind.
