Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga should be on that list, surely
Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga should be on that list, surely
I don't even know who Justin Bieber is apart from a "teenage boy who looks like a lesbian"(from AfterEllen) or a "much gayer version of Zack Efron"(from my brother). I have no idea what he actually "does" except look like a gay woman and gay man at the same time. Surely this cannot be possible?

Josephus does mention a Jesus as brother of James. The other entry has been heavily added to, or outright faked much later. In itself it proves nothing. There are a few messiahs named around that time, including Vespasian whom Josephus himself names as the messiah.
You rarely get "proof" as such for many characters from that time, but taken all together, Tacitus, Josephus and the New Testament (there exists a papyrus fragment of the Gospel of St. John from the early second century) do give quite good evidence for the existence of Jesus. His existence is more proven than that of, say, Plato. Of course, people feel more comfortable with the historicity of Plato because there aren't all those supernatural acts associated with him.
Not in any particular order and without much thought
1) Jesus
2) Mohammed
3) Buddha
4) Albert Einstein
5) Leonardo da Vinci
6) Charles Darwin
7) William Shakespeare
8) Nelson Mandela
9) Mahatma Gandhi
10) Abraham
Glad to see Gandhi in the list, but I would include Mao Tse Tung too.
I'm not doing a top 10 because most of them have already been on almost all the lists. But I can't believe that Nelson Mandela hasn't been on most of them - or Winston Churchill - or Robert Walpole.
Also very few mentions for Columbus, and very few scientists - I can only recall Einstein and poss Pythagorus (sp?) if you count maths as a science. No Fleming, Pasteur, Galileo, Copernicus, Oppenheimer or Steven Hawking? No Isaac Newton?
In no order
1. Einstein
2. Osama Bin Laden
3. Neil Armstrong
4. Mandela
5. Elvis
6. Julius Ceaser
7. Michael Jackson
8. John F. Kennedy
9. Darwin
10. Hitler
Jesus
Virgin Mary
Mohammed
Moses
The Pope (not any particular one but the position ie would recognise a pic if in uniform)
Osama bin Ladin
Michael Jackson
Obama
Beckham
Hitler
Bob Marley / Che Guevarra
Yes I know it is more than 10 but I couldn't make my mind up.
Shakespeare
Newton
Da Vinci
Einstein
Hitler
Jesus of Nazareth
Those six are there for eternity as they are among the most important figures in human history. Muhammad while a hugely significant figure in Islam, he doesnt have significance for the 5 billion plus outside of it. Moses has a bigger claim. The remaining 4 are tough to call. While only a trivial character in comparison to those previously listed, Elvis is the only person from the latter half of the 20th century who would even get a mention in such a debate, but in 100 years time im not convinced he would as his relevance wanes. Churchill is perhaps the only other 20th century figure who would get a mention. My own remaining four would be
If you're responsible for a world war during which you are responsible for murdering over 6 million Jews along with numerous other groups of people then you are pretty famous for being the biggest son of a bitch evil bastard that ever walked the earth. Rest in shit Adolf!
Should we imagine asking every person who has ever lived who the ten most famous people are? We need to be thinking in terms of people who have been big on the radar in China, India and the USA for the last few hundred years if we are to aim for the most famous ever. In no particular order, and off the top of my head, what about:
1. Jesus
2. Aristotle
3. Confucius
4. Columbus
5. Genghis Khan
6. Mohammed
7. Plato
8. Socrates
9. Marco Polo
10. Spartacus
There are possibly several of the most famous people of all time that I have never even heard of.
If the human race is still about in 5000yrs the only person from our era who will be known is Neil Armstrong
Depends what you mean by 'our era'. Of the last fifty years then I agree - even though today more people seem to have heard of Buzz Aldrin than Neil Amstrong
1. Jesus
2. Michael Jackson
3. Mohammed Ali
4. The Queen
5. Elvis Presley
6. Martin Luther King.
7. Hitler
8. John Lennon
9. Ghandi
10. Kevin Webster from Coronation Street
1. Jesus Christ
2. William Shakespeare
3. Winston Churchill
4. Queen Elizabeth II
5. The Pope
6. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
7. John Lennon
8. Adolf Hitler
9. Isaac Newton
10. Leonardo da Vinci

My god !!
What kind of haircut is THAT ??:eek:
What DOES he look like !!
It is a bit extreme.
Glad to see Gandhi in the list, but I would include Mao Tse Tung too.
But as he ruled the most populous nation on the planet, an awful lot of people will have heard of him.
I'm delighted to present you with the Big Bitch award for Masterly Understatement!
