I was bored before and got thinking about who I regard as the most well-known people that ever lived. Not necessarily the nicest or most deserving of the honour, but the best-known ever. Here's my list, would love to hear yours for a bit of fun!

1. Jesus Christ
2. Adolf Hitler
3. Elvis Presley
4. Princess Diana
5. JFK
6. Michael Jackson
7. Marilyn Monroe
8. Albert Einstein
9. Martin Luther King Jr.
10. John Lennon

    Ever, eh?

1st equal (being diplomatic here): Jesus and Mohammed.
    3rd: The Buddha
    4th. Chairman Mao
    5th Adolf Hitler
    6th Michael Jackson
    7th Elvis Presley
    8th The Beatles
    9th Albert Einstein
    10th The Virgin Mary

Bit sublime to the ridiculous, but there we are.

I think that fame due to influence matters the most. Movie stars should not really be in the top 10.

How times change. 10-15 years ago this would have been Nelson Mandela 1st through to 10th. Still at least there's no mention of boy band members, teen heart throbs or Simon Cowell.:D

Surely you mean Dyson, the man who invented the vacuum cleaner which, if it had a bag, would be called a hoover.:D

I presume if it is the most famous people ever then there has to be in there people who have been top of the fame game for hundreds of years and who straddle empires or who have gone into folklore worldwide and therefore their names would be familiar to most people from generations ago until today rather than people who are relatively recently famous. Therfore I would include the following:

    Jesus Christ
    Cleopatra
    Julius Ceasar
    Mohammed
    Shakespeare
    Leonardo da Vinci
    Mary the mother of Jesus
    Alexander the Great
    King Arthur
    Helen of Troy

are mythical beings allowed? or would that bring up a row about jesus?
