I would go OP. Paris is a beautiful place & I remember when I went that there were police everywhere! It was a bit off putting at first, but you soon get used to them. You tend to see more of them around tourist areas & central attractions but they do wander the streets because there are quite a few pick pockets & that there. There was even policemen in the toilets too, but after I got used to them I felt safe.
