Opinions on men who take care of themselves?

I'm quite a big grooming man

I moisturize, have a variety of creams I apply to my face, a variety of hair products, pluck eyebrows, wear fake tan, whiten teeth etc

I even sometimes wear BB cream and concealer if I'm having a bad skin period

I almost never wear T Shirts unless they're underneath something, and only ever wear trainers if I'm popping to the shops or something.

I'm kind of the 'dapper' one out of the lads group. They're used to it now, but many boys (And some girls) think it's pathetic I put this much effort in to my looks. What are your opinions on it?

It's 2014! Men's grooming is huge!! I'm similar to you. I pluck my eyebrows, I trim any body hair to keep it tidy/hygeneic. I moisturise daily and I also have a face mask that I use now and again. Just like you, I also use concealer and a BB Cream now and again. In terms of fake tan, the only one I use is James Read Liquid Tan...it's the only good one in my opinion. What do you use to whiten your teeth? I had mine professionaly whitened back in 2008 and they looked absolutely incredible, but due to smoking (I no longer smoke) they're no longer as white. I'm thinking of getting them done again.

I use the Rapid White strips, however they're not great and don't last long at all, they do give it an extra white tint though so I carry on using them

I'm looking in to getting them whitened though

Also with the fake tan, I wanted to get James Reade but M&S told me they don't sell it anymore, so I use both St Tropez and Xen now

I could not imagine being with someone who took longer to get ready than me.

Pretty boys like Mark Wright and Joey Essex with nuclear teeth do nothing for me. I prefer men without vanity.

And don't even get me started on the clothes. If I'd waited two hours and you walked out in a cardigan, a pair of rolled up chinos and some loafers and looking more orange than Peter Andre, I would piss myself laughing then dump you.

I live in Essex and see a LOT of these wannabes. They look like absolute tw*ts!

I don't like pretty boys like the TOWIE, Made in Chelsea, Geordie Shore lot. I don't see anything wrong with trimming hair or tweezing to prevent a monobrow but I like chest hair, a little stubble and the likes.

An example of the kind of appearance I like is someone like Ed Sheeran. I don't really like the pretty boy look. I'd find it tiresome.

However, if looking like that is how you want to look, go for it. Some girls love it, some men love it. Different strokes.

Eyebrow plucking, keeping skin moisturised, and general grooming is great but I absolutely draw the line at fake tan which is NEVER a good look, especially when coupled with unnaturally whiter than white teeth....put the orange stuff away boys:)
I believe the porcelain look is much more fashionable know anyway.

This made me snort with laughter! :D And I agree. I'm not into overly groomed men. A bit of tidying up nose hair or monobrow is fine, but basically I like my men natural - unshaven, messy-haired and definitely unwaxed. Waxed chests repel me. To me it's so unmasculine.

And I hate man perfumes of any kind. Clean male body is a lovely smell - why would you obliterate that with a load of stinking chemicals that make me sneeze?

Totally agree. I was watching Skyfall last night and you have Daniel Craig with his weathered, masculine old face and then you have his completely hair-free, smooth as a baby's bottom waxed bodybuilder chest.....it's repulsive>:(

Pretty much this. No problem at all with a man taking care of himself but the waxed bare, fake tanned, botoxed, tombstone teeth look is just a big no, no for me.

Sad thing is a lot of the youngsters in my office think body hair is a deal breaker and have said they'd dump someone who had pubes (I've heard both male and female say that) :o

I couldn't be interested in a man who didn't care how he looked, but I agree that it can be overdone. Too much of anything (plucking, tanning, whitening, etc.) is a big turn off but then the same applies to women. If a man doesn't have any self respect, then why should I respect him? If he can't be bothered to make the best of himself, then there's something wrong.

The whole hairless thing is a bit disturbing to me. Traditionally an adult would only remove their body hair as a sign of their submission in a D/s relationship, now fashion seems to dictate that all adults should infantilise their bodies. It's a disturbing trend that I hope ends soon.

Fake tan never looks good ever, no matter how much I see my friends spend on it it always looks streaky or too orange and everyone knows it's not natural. Combined with the whole whitened teeth look. No no no no. And I really I don't get this trend of drawing on heavy pencilled brows? Neaten them up sure but to have two crayola-ed caterpillars above your eyes just looks ridiculous. I have nothing against people who take care of themselves but to me there is nothing attractive about all the fakery.

But then that's just me, to someone who likes all that stuff the idea of me not shaving my legs in the winter is probably horrific and a huge turn off. Each to their own.

That's sweet of you, there is nothing wrong with men who take care of themselves using beauty products, nothing new to gay men.

If you didn't groom yourself then the very same people who complain would whinge about (examply) your nose hair and say why can't you trim or pluck them. You can't win and please them all so please yourself only! Nothing wrong with personal grooming.

My husband said if you drive a lot you should wear decent sunglasses (ski ones) as they stop you squinting and thereby stopping you getting lines near your eyes, creams are only so good! Prevention is better than cure!

I generally agree with this. However, I have a mate who is fairly good-looking; great bone structure, nice cheek bones and jawline. But he has a monobrow and his teeth are pretty yellow and he is sallow skinned. He would be model material if he got a bit of colour about him, whitened his teeth and did something about the monobrow.
So... maybe some guys should put in a wee bit more effort, but generally I'm all for natural.

:o:o Really?! :o:o I find that SO WEIRD!

Hairless genitals repel me even more than waxed chests! It's so childlike and creepy!

Is it the norm among young people to be totally hairless in the crotch area now then?

Can't they just tell their partner to shave?

Not with me, I don't know about other young men.

Don't know if it's the norm but I heard a certain person at work had cleared all his out so his thingy would look bigger :o

Maybe he's 'small' and couldn't see it without shaving.

Sadly, it's the porn industry which dictate that particular fashion - for men and women.

What's wrong with wearing a t-shirt naturally? Why do you feel the need to wear it under something?

I think men should moisturise but fake tan is a turn off. I like stubble like Michael Parr who plays Ross in Emmerdale has but not a beard longer than that. I think it's OK to tweeze your eyebrows and have whitened teeth if you're a bloke.

I like a man to be a man. I couldn't bare to be with someone who spent all day looking at themselves in the mirror.

I have never been a fan of pretty boys. If you are naturally handsome with darker skin - great. But seeing men who self tan and look orange or spend their lives in the tanning salon ... no thanks. And why do people think they have to have whiter than white teeth these days ?
