I guess it has to be one of the greatest albums. Nearly everything about it is good.
It's a triumph of production, of songwriting, of electronics and rock music, of graphic design...characterised by personal alienation against an urban landscape. I can't fault it and I often revisit it. And I've bought the CD three times.
I always sway in whether I like Closer or Unknown Pleasures better. At the moment it's Unknown Pleasures, tomorrow, who knows???????????
I'm exactly the same.
For me Unknown Pleasures is just epic in the middle - New Dawn Fades, She's Lost Control, Shadowplay - whereas Closer ends brilliantly albeit darkly with Twenty Four Hours, The Eternal and Decades.
