David Tennant.
Not that surprising maybe, but he actually received over 50% of the vote. That equated to 26,570 votes, so it's a very good sample size IMO.

The majority of voters will have likely never even seen Docs 1-8, often even 9. While there's still every chance Tennant would have clenched the lead (not that I voted for him) there's no way he could secure a 50%+ vote without the help of his "fangirls".
I voted for Matt, Tom, Sylvester, Colin . . . I do know David was before Peter, I don't recall where
And let me guess, if your choice had won there would have been no fangirl agenda?
I think the main issue is the insane margin of victory, rather than the victor.
Of course!
My post was slightly tongue in cheek. I am happy with the result even if not my choice. He was a fantastic doctor and deserves it. That said I do think the margin of victory is a bit silly- I would've preferred a slightly more even split on the voting to reflect the relative merits of all the doctors. But no problem with Tennant winning.
I can agree with that, I didn't check the margins until just now. Though not my absolute favourite I can see why he usually snags the top spot.
Over 50,000 votes cast does represent a very good sample size IMO.
I have no idea what exact Who knowledge those 50,000 voters have, but whatever it is it has nothing to do with the sample size.
What are you on?
Government policy, marketing campaigns, TV shows, are guided by much smaller numbers.
I voted Matt.
So what?
So you're saying the voters are part of the recently quoted 77 million world-wide viewership?
And this is bad, how?
Most of the planet hasn't seen doctors 1-8, outside of YouTube.
Genuine Doctor Who fans have.
Oh FFS, really?
I have underpants older than you, I suspect.
Shall I line them up and show them Classic Who?
If you haven't at least watched or educated yourself on Classic Who then for me you are not a true fan of DW. I'm not saying you have to like it as much. But you should've watched it.
Hey guess what! Age has nothing to do with it since god invented DVDs.
Wow.
True fan.
I cannot compete with Truth.
Or the Passion of True Fandom..
But lay it on me Salad, how old are you?
A true fan of Doctor Who probably wouldn't go judging other people's level of fandom based on their own standards.
31 for what its worth. The relevance of this escapes me.
Maybe the way I put it sounded a bit harsh/arrogant. But its my view. I cannot understand the mindset of anyone who would not at least have tried watching Classic Who even if they decide its not for them.
Because, like it or not, Rose was designed to be a new first episode of Doctor Who. It's written like a first episode, structured like a first episode, and treated like a first episode from that point on - with the express intention that for some people, it is the first episode and always will be. And that works absolutely fine. Apart from The Name of the Doctor, there is no episode of the new series that is diminished by not having seen the classic series, and it is easy to capture the heart of the show from the new series alone. For some people, the classic series is simply unnecessary backstory, and I can completely understand that.
As do I in regards to you. Age is not the factor. Love of the show is
Or online viewing/downloading through legal sources
David isn't my favourite Doctor, but he kept the show going. That's what's important.
Well said.
Your age is not important. You are probably more MATURE the I am.
I take your point. I suppose I am basing it on my own standards and definition of being a fan as opposed to a casual viewer. Its like for me it seems natural to have an interest in it. In the same way as when I saw my first David Lynch film I couldn't wait to go back and see them all. Its like hearing Sgt Pepper and thinking 'well that's good enough for me' and not diving into the back catalogue. Yep. You might not like it. But I cannot understand why you wouldn't want to at least give it a go. I am no Classic Who super fan compared to many on here. I on balance watch and rewatch the new show more these days. But I think there is alot to enjoy in it and for me if you're a fan of the doctor travelling in the Tardis, if you love the concept of the show as opposed to the actor playing the doctor then it seems natural you would have an interest in exploring this fascinating history of the show.
But I accept my comments might've seemed arrogant and elitist. Wasn't my intention. As I say I just view it the way I think of these things. Its cool if people can take it or leave it. I couldn't.
For what it's worth, I agree with you that it's instinctive for me to delve further than the new series. But it really is enough for some people, and you may lose the history of the show and some cracking stories by not watching the classics, but you don't really lose much else. Besides, the new series has a whole history and mythology of its own now. It's almost 9 years old now, which is longer than most series. There's heaps of stuff to enjoy in Series 1-7, so much so that it's more than enough to sate many appetites.
Yeah. I see your point. I suppose its part of the brilliance of what RTD managed when he brought it back and what Moffat has continued. You can either view it as a separate entity entirely and a standalone or as a continuation of the Classic series. It works in both ways which is amazing when you think of it. To have managed that tricky balance! For me it is very much a continuation of Classic Who completely. They are inseparable. But I accept not for all. As I say its just my natural response to dive into the history of the show or anything I enjoy be it music or films or books. I realize not everyone is that way.
