They'll be people out there reading this that'd like to see the both of us strangled for suggesting either of them lol, message received and understood what you think but I wouldn't want Colin on the breakfast show he's started to grate on me badly, I'd have Johnny but only a more serious Johnny as previously stated.
When Alan Brazil finally hangs up his giant big extra large freebie bag and retires full time to his drinking and eating establishments it'd probably be best anyway to look outside the station for a fresh brand new guy with talent but that's not talkSPORT'S usual method is it.

hahaha I only said put Colin on breakfast because that's the only show on the station I'm not awake for, personally if it were up to me I'd get rid of him. I think your right though, I can see them looking elsewhere for a "name". There's got to be a presenter out there who loves sport and would love a similar wage to Brazil. :D
Then again I don't know the history of Talksport or how they handle replacements, are you implying that they tend to promote from within?
As a different kind of suggestion, what about Cundy? He was great on SkySports years ago, is a former player, can do "serious" but has a sense of humour and can be the main guy as shown when he's filled in for Adrian on Drivetime. Might not be a big "name" to the general public (is Brazil? Not sure) but those who know football know him. Ticks a lot of boxes.

Good to see my suggestion has gone down reasonably well and has provoked some interesting discussion on here.

Yeh but at the same time, who wants a serious Johnny Vaughan? Takes away what makes him so fun! I'd move Colin earlier to breakfast when I don't listen and Johnny to Colin's slot! lol :D

Putting Johnny Vaughan on the Sports Breakfast wouldn't necessarily mean he'd have to present in a more serious style, he'd be working on a more purposeful and structured programme yes but that wouldn't necessarily mean he'd have to water down his personality. I think he's sounded better on shows where there is a little bit of direction to them, without this detracting from what he normally brings to the table.

...as for you ever becoming Programme Director at talkSPORT Diff sorry mate you'll never get my vote you'd have Goldstein on 12 hours a day. :D

If I was in charge I'd keep restricted Andy Goldstein to The Sports Bar, honest! :D

I like him on that show as you know, but I wouldn't have him or Jason Cundy at the top of the list of cover hosts on the weekday daytime programmes - I'd have Ian Danter and Danny Kelly as the main two guys who can come in to pick up any of those five shows when necessary.
I think the 2 Mikes work perfectly in their overnight slot. Stick them on a daytime slot & you'll take away from what makes them good together. Thats why I dont want to see them moved.

Weekend breakfast has always tended to be much more relaxed than its weekday counterpart. Mike Parry's mad spiel worked well in that timeslot when he was paired with Andy Townsend, it was their move to more of a structured programme in the weekday mid-morning timeslot that meant they had to play to certain conventions and discuss serious topics, so Mike suffered from having less of the freedoms he enjoyed at the weekends and now enjoys overnight.

So I don't think Parry & Graham would sound that different on weekend mornings to how they do overnights, just as they didn't when they were given that one-off Saturday night programme a few weeks ago. Besides, under the plan I outlined last night you wouldn't be moving them off the Monday-Thursday night/Tuesday-Friday morning editions of Extra Time, just giving them an additional show (a fifth weekly show in MG's case) on top of what they do now.

Jason Cundy's a safe pair of hands who provides more than adequate cover on shows like the Sports Breakfast and Drive Time, but I'm not convinced he'd be a spectacular lead Sports Breakfast host on a permanent basis. I think he and Andy Goldstein have found their niche on The Sports Bar since it moved to a weeknight slot, where Jason in particular always sounds really enthusiastic and clearly enjoys chatting to fans travelling away from matches and the humorous elements of the show. I honestly think Andy and Jason could be in that timeslot for years to come, but as much as I like them on that show I have no desire to hear them permanently in a daytime slot - I don't think they'd be that great outwith The Sports Bar's late night format.

One potential Sports Breakfast host other than Johnny Vaughan in the current talkSPORT line-up for me could be Paul Hawksbee at some point down the line. If Andy Jacobs, who is about ten years older than Paul, decides to call it a day from the afternoon slot or regular radio work in general at a time when PH is keen to remain on the station; then if I was in Liam Fisher or whoever talkSPORT's programme controller is on that day, I'd look for ways to give Paul the chance to host the Sports Breakfast if he was up for it. OK, he's not a high profile figure outside of the talkSPORT listenership but that shouldn't be an issue now as that base is covered by the rota of ex-sportsman co-hosts. He has so many strings to his bow that would serve him well on the flagship show - he's naturally witty and clever, he's clued up about a broad number of sports, he always gets on with and gets the best out of his guests, he can do light and shade well and he's not someone who you would find off-putting or to in your face first thing.

Some good natter on here today chaps about the presenter role on the breakfast, I was thinking when you look back at it Alan Brazil was more or less a nobody in presenting and punditry terms before he joined talkSPORT.

After having to retire from football at 27 through serious back problems he went into the brewery trade and tried running a pub for a living, he can't have been happy with that so got out and started applying for punditry work on TV and radio, I do now know if he'd tried any other kind of work in between packing pub work up and trying punditry maybe someone else out there does.

I know he did a little television as a summariser for one of the stations but apart from that he'd never done any presenting work to my knowledge, he certainly didn't have the personality trait he has now although I'd bet a few ex footballers from his era could tell some stories!.

Brazil's personality as we all know it is built purely from his reputation as a drinker and socialiser and his wanton methods of getting hold of anything that's good and free for himself coupled with his love of the better things in life like holidays in exotic places usually on someone else, free best seats in the house at top sporting events and gratis servings of good food at top restaurants has only helped build the kind of reputation he has.

He's not really famous at all for what he actually does in his work, ok he drops verbal b0110ck$ saying things he shouldn't so I suppose he is famous for that on reflection but what I'm trying to say is his whole reputation is based on things he mainly does out of work i,e. heavy drinking, top restaurants and freebies. [done well on it aint' he]

    I'm rambling, it's been a busy day, ............. I'll shut up. :p

    Goodnight.

Apparently Big Al was away in Sardinia last week. It seems the nice rest hasn't done much to calm him done. This morning he told us (and I quote) "I agree with what Nigel Farage has to say .., ". I have no comment to make about Alan's political opinions, aside from the fact that I couldn't care less about them, but should he have said this loud and proud on the airways this morning? We all know what happened to James Whale (admittedly that was just before the election for the London Mayor but Alan should be more careful). However .. he didn't want to stop there. Following Sandy Warr reporting about Andrew Flintoff's recent driving case Alan had to tell us that only recently he was speeding, he had left home in Suffolk at 4.30am to get to TS for his show at 6.00am and there was no alternative. Sandy did try to point out that he was putting others at risk but he was mostly have none of it, he seems to think he has the right to be treated differently to any of us mere mortals.:(

Vaughan on the breakfast show would guarantee I'd never listen to it again. I don't think he was a resounding success on the one previous occasion he stood in. Only Danny Kelly has sufficient heft to replace Brazil.

I wonder if they made him blow into the magic machine when they pulled him up they may have done at that time of the morning and he's not very good with that type of equipment is he as he demonstrated in his infamous police station video on YouTube?.

Did you ever have the displeasure of reading either of his two books Ven?, I have but only because I spotted them on a carboot/market stall going for 50p for the both of them and I thought to hell with it I'll buy them for the sake of it they will surely disgust me but I don't care I want to read if he writes as bad as he talks on talkSPORT and he didn't let me down in either!.

His books are full from start to end with self gratification at what he can get out of life for himself and how well he thinks he's done for himself, I actually found them so bad I could only read so much of either and had to put them down, he actually boasts about his drinking habits and lifestyle that read so badly there was no way I wanted to read any further. I think I stored them up in the attic somewhere but only for future referencing at how really bad they are.

Parry had a hand in both books which isn't surprising really is it.

I have sympathy for that opinion Ahoy larking around acting stupid would be a right turn off I agree, [personally speaking I now accept it on the Warm Up] but on the breakfast show most people want a serious sports slot where they can catch up on the latest sports news.
I firmly believe though Vaughan could 'do serious' if he really wanted to and I think he has many more talents than 90% of them on the books that's why I say I'd have him doing the show but only if we could have that other persona.

How is the Season Ticket progressing? I do like DK and find him listenable but wasn't sure whether to bother with this show.

TS have made a mistake in getting rid of Football First, Dants and Alvin were fantastic for three hours of professional, informed debate.

I can't believe that I was such an avid listener of Mike's back in the day.

I stopped listening to him once the station went 24 hours a day sport, because I found it laughable that a man who had little knowledge & even less interest in sport would be presenting a 5 hour all sports show.

I'm assuming that if he is still doing it, that his sporting knowledge is now sufficient to present a sports show?

    At least I hope so.:kitty:

Ha ha .. no chance Billy: And if you paid 50p for the two you were ripped off, I heard they were being remaindered on Waterloo Station for 20 pence for the pair, but still no takers, so they ended up being given away for nothing with Evening Standard.:D

Yeah, setting off on time would clearly have been impossible. What choice did he have?

Only surprised he hasn't got a freebie courtesy limo and driver to ferry him the 90 miles from Suffolk to talkSPORT each morning with him lording it in the back listening to Rod belting out Maggie May while he's frantically reading the back pages to catch up on all the football news.

What do people think of Matt Holland's new show.

Hope there is a mixture of Premier league and Football league coverage given he played in both.

I'm sure Brazil has got a flat in London he stays in during the week and he has mentioned before that a driver picks him up every morning.......unless TS bosses have put a stop to that. then again what's the chances of him being sober enough to drive in at 5.00am....absolutely none whatsoever. I suppose his bosses think by sending a driver to pick him up there's more chance he will turn up. :D

Not sure if you will have seen it at the time, but after listening to most of the debut edition of The Season I posted my thoughts on it in detail on this thread: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?p=74231138&highlight=#post74231138

I should note that that programme went out on the first day of the Football League season before the Premier League had kicked off, so subsequent shows may have become more Prem-centric. I must confess I haven't heard more than half an hour of The Season Ticket since its debut edition, so I'm not place to comment on it since then. But I was pleasantly surprised with the first programme, Danny had thrown a lot of energy and ideas into it and it was very different to what I was expecting (in a good way).

But I write this as someone who was and still is very much against the removal of Football First with Ian Danter and Alvin Martin from the schedule. It was consistently one of the best programmes on talkSPORT and in my opinion is a big loss to the station, I'll certainly miss listening to it. But at least it seems they have replaced quality with quality.

Yea pretty much spot on I reckon about why they provide a driver for him from his London flat in Canary Wharf I wonder if any presenters there get ferried in for free door to door?, ... not in a friggin' million years is the firm answer.

Well, considering he was given a 20-month driving ban for being sozzled at the wheel, I'm glad someone picks him up. I don't drive myself (or get up at 4:30am, that's for sure!), but I'm sure the roads will be safer if he's a mere passenger. And I'm sure this will be TalkSport's major motivation, given that although all publicity can be considered good publicity, you don't really want your primary presenters being caught drink-driving.

I'm enjoying it, Matt is pretty likeable and he's getting better every week. I think he's having a different co-host every week, last week was Dean Ashton and this week is Higginbotham. They talk mostly Prem but considering most of Matts former teams are non-Premier League teams now they do sway away every so often. Probably not enough though.

Sounds like the worst job in the world, getting up at god knows when in the morning and having to wake up and drive a half-baked and hungover Alan Brazil to work - PASS! Whoever does it, they deserve a medal.

Worst job in the world? ... most definitely, that car is a confined space, given that Boozy will be still half sozzled from the day before and still full of grub inside that he's previously scoffed down can you imagine the FLATULENCE levels during the drive?.

If I were the driver I'd be demanding either a sliding glass partition for a separate driving area or a damn good gas mask. :D
