I wonder in how many of those 32 tests did the team who bowled first go on to win?

from what I can see 9 wins , 11 losses and 12 draws

if only we had been bowling that line and length more often

England now marginally ahead in the match. Good chance for them to be knocked over for under 250, possibly under 200. Should be Englands match if that's the case.

    Crucial wicket that.
England got a good chance of getting india all out below 200.
Hopefully india can get a total of around 250-300.

    Wicketkeepers?
    Who could/should replace Prior?

    Read? Too old?
Davies - was an international before Surrey got hold of him
    Buttler - glovework good enough?

don't think buttler's glovework is any worse than prior atm and it can only improve if hes getting the opportunity to work on it fulltime within the England setup

his FC batting record was more of a concern but hes doing fairly well this year, averaging around 42 for lancs I think

Given the problems we have had in finishing off teams recently, I wouldn't be surprised to see India reach something like 350.

Jadeja is a walking wicket in this pitch.
Binny and B kumar the only hopes for support for Rahane.

If Cook manages to win this series he's got the captaincy for at least another two years. Big series for him.

not if he doesn't start scoring runs

his captaincy hasn't improved that much, if any, to make up for an average of 24 for the last year

Come on india get 200-250 and get a competitive total.
I would say 250 will be par on this pitch in first innings.

250 would be a very good score with the amount of lateral movement there has been , even with the ball 53 overs old its still seaming

I'd be concerned for England with any score over 200.

won't last for long though, if india are all out for 180.
England can bat india out of the game.

England must be killing themselves they could have really dismissed india for 100-150 if they bowled well in the first session.

I expect shami and kumar to bowl much better lengths with the new ball than any of our bowlers did , what ishant will do is anyones guess ;-)

After that pitch report I am feeling a lot better now.

I really hope Rose bowl, Old trafford and Oval is not this green.
the groundsman needs to get the right balance.

Here we go again. Another example of England having difficulty finishing off a team.

    200 for india.
If india doesn't lose a wicket today, I think they would be the happier team.
    Runs on the board.

    Top scorers in the innings:

    Rahane 103
    Bhuvi Kumar [number 9] - 36
    Pujara & Extras* - 28

India will be the happier team.
England bowlers were pathetic in the first and last session.

That's an excellent day for India all things considered. I think some of the English bowling has been woeful and I also think England are in trouble already for the match.
