Anyone find the "look at me" Cannes events nauseating? seeing celebs who love themselves and they are not even involved in the movie business half of them.

This made me and although probably not what you want to hear I was a non celeb posing for the camera (my husband's ) on the red carpet in Cannes only two weeks ago.
Cannes is more a media **** magnet than a film festival TBH....I'm surprised Katie Price isn't there.....:p
Not true at all. Cannes is one of the best and most influential film festivals and is regarded as such by the industry because it's about quality filmmaking, not campaigning. You only have to look at the calibre of the juries and the very diverse line-up of films in competition to see that.
The 'glam' factor has always been an integral part of Cannes - go there, be seen, party, - and yes, that increasingly attracts those at the lower end of celebrity in need of some red carpet coverage - but it's all part of the Cannes experience and takes nothing away from the competition side of it which is as professional and respected internationally as ever.
I think that some of the celebs lower down the sliding scale of fame are also tied into sponsorship deals.
So, for instance, if some of the towie lot are snapped in a particuar clothing shop (Zara) and it gets the requisite headlines, it's a contractual obligation met.
Or if Cheryl Cole is on the red carpet, then it's a kerching sponsorship deal for L'Oreal.
Films and the film industry have lots of different backers, who in turn have advertising deals to spin to the paper.
It's all a big Ker-ching for businesses big, massive, colossal and small.
Cheryl Cole (and I am most definitely NOT a fan) looked absolutely brilliant. But I know that is only make up and veneers etc. Not sure why she was there, what film has she been in lately?

So why is Chloe Sims at Cannes????? perfect example of what the OP was pointing out me thinks....:rolleyes:

I think a lot of the people who walk on the red carpet are wanting attention. I'm not saying it's a BAD thing, just that a lot of them do crave attention when they're on the red carpet.

I was responding to this, which as I've just pointed out, is completely untrue.

If you use the DM as your guide, then I guess you'll see it as just a platform for wannabes looking for attention. If you follow films/film sites in any general way, then you'd know it continues to be a major and very influential film festival.
I do think the inclusion of attention seeking Z-listers drags Cannes down. I wish the event was more exclusive when it comes to who can be let anywhere near it, like the Oscars. The wannabes and nobodies being allowed to attend in any form does tarnish it, I feel.
Lizzie is not starring in any of the nominated films but obviously this won't stop her from flaunting her enviable bikini body while she is on holiday.
Although it wasn't all play for the former WAG - she presented at the Eva Longoria event and was seen mingling with A-listers such as the Desperate Housewives star and Jane Fonda.
And the award for "The Most Past it Poser Desperately Wanting to be a Wag Again" goes to.... Also, what a waste of a good bikini costing £50 when £49's worth is stuck up her arse!!

She is there because of L'Oreal, each year they get their spokesmodels out there to promote their range, I am pretty sure I read they sponsor Cannes Film Festival.
Cannes is always a sickening display of wealth and power..by people that have hardly noticed that they are in France and use big yachts as penis extension, to symbolise power....Combine the fact it seems to fall at the same time of year as the Monte Carlo F1 race, it increases the glamour..
Cannes is usually filled with the tacky famewhores, that look really cheap. Towie's Lucy, looked good. Most of the celebs do go there for the red carpet treatment. Eva Longoria always looks really beautiful and amazing, even if she isn't promoting a film.

I think its the job centre for other celebs. A way to get discovered a get new contacts.

They're trying to publicise their films.
I think the OP was referring to the "other" celebs who have nothing to do with films...

Turns out Cindy was only attending the premiere of 'The Great Gatsby' so that was the total involvement she had regarding Cannes.

I remember she once appeared in some film (I can't remember the name of title) but it proved that she should have stuck to modelling ONLY.
