It obviously depends massive on location and circumstances, but I would say around £30k (single) or 50k (couple) would be the minimum you would need to a semi decent lifestyle and to be able to put some away in savings.

My wage on graduation will be about £21500*.

I would like to be able to specialise perhaps and go up another pay band or two. And possibly somewhen own my own business.

So I would say for me, a 'decent' salary would be about £35,000.

*Luckily found a degree I love with a very high likelihood of a job in that field within 6 months.

For a job being likely in the field of my Degree? Me too. I have so many friends who have found it impossible to find employment in anything even slightly related to theirs :(

I think £100,000+ is decent. Anything below is quite working class.

If that's decent i'd hate to see poverty spec. do you mean as a couple or for a single person? a couple on 10k each could make it work but for one... it's pretty rough.

Do you think many Dr's, university professors and politicians are working class?

this is an example, which I would say is a good life but most people would see it differently because they can't live for the simple things, they want fame and designer labels

leave school at 18, you earn £10k per year.

Save a deposit whilst living with parents, leave at 21. Get a mortgage (even on your £10k salary)

    £10k -

    £4k mortgage
    £2k transport
    £1k food
    £1k council tax
    £1k essential bills
    £1k pleasure

That is a basic life plan there. Most people will get more than a £10k salary. Also if you live with a partner, bills, mortgage etc, can be halved leaving you more budget for entertainment/pleasure/holidays.

Now stop moaning about all this living wage and minimum wage nonsense, the minimum wage is fair!!

When I was earning about £16,000 that was plenty for me, I earn less than that now though due to 2 paycuts and then having to take a lower paid new job:(

    Are you in dreamland:eek: LOL

I am living with parents, and have been saving since 19, I am 22 now, I have just about 10k so far, if i save another 30k I might just have enough to get a mortgage. But My wage would need to increase by at least 5k per year before I could pay the mortgage each month and live as well.

I know, I could get a job up north, But I would have to leave my family.

But I think even up there you cannot live and have a house on 10k a year.

Don't feel sorry for us, the higher cost of living is made up for by the fact that WE LIVE IN LONDON. It's expensive for a reason, we could all move somewhere cheaper of we wanted to

I didn't ask how much your parents earn, I asked if you thought doctors, MPs and University professors were working class?
