The missis is out tonight so I've chosen to watch tonight's 9pm games on ARD HD and EinsFestival HD. Can anyone tell me why the pics on BBC1 HD and BBC3 HD are about 2 seconds behind the ARD HD coverage? Is it an uplink think or is it to do with the positions of the satellites?

I'm using a Panasonic Freesat TV for the German stuff and a Sky box for BBC. The delay is the same if I watch BBC on both so I reckon your second point is on the money.
Really? all of the fta ones?
In comparison to 1080i both is the same speed to process, as you have to remember every frame at 1080i is actually only half a frame (so it actually is 1920x540). So both have around the same amount of data to process.
Jep, all the ARD and ZDF Channels (so all of German Public Broadcasting) are in 720p only. They say its because of the thing with the half pictures I stated above, because with the "full pictures" you should get a more smooth picture (Which isn't working as the idiots are working with 1080i inside)
Since the processing time seems to be very different between different TVs for the same content, it's not unlikely that it can also differ on the same TV between different contents resolutions due to different algorithms used.
In addition the displays with very high refresh rate can also introduce additional delays which may depend on the input signal resolution.
