No idea, I guess so. But the third party has to stream it to BT at the same rate, regardless of the 'transmission' profile.
I guess BT charge different rates for the two transmission profiles, reflecting their own bandwidth costs. Sadly I don't ink many, if any ISPs will go for the premium options.
Oh yes, they do. Heres an article on the matter. And your gonna love this, because it provides much information -
It doesn't tell us anything we haven't already discussed here though.
But it does! It not only tells us how much it will cost a third party to provide internet TV, it also gives a breakdown on those costs, too -
The pricing of the TV Connect service takes effect from 1st May 2013, and each channel carries a one-off £80,000 activation fee, and the cost per Mbps (Megabit per second) every month is £6,667. This means a 3 Mbps SD channel would cost £20,000 a month to broadcast over the network, rising to £67,000 for a HD channel. How this translates into a cost per subscriber really depends on how many subscribers a channel attracts.
Do you know of any issues with the TalkTalk YouView box?
Infinidim
I think all the issues with the YouView boxes have been resolved through updates. There are a few threads on these forums about TalkTalk that mention the box which may be worth reading, maybe Recombu.com as well.

With all the winter weather we've been having this summer, I thought you'd gone into hibernation.
The BT website seems to say that if you want to watch BT Sport on your TV, you have to have BT Infinity (if you are or want to be a BT broadband customer), implying that if you have the normal BT broadband you won't be able to watch the BT Sport channels on your TV, even if you have a BT TV package.
That is correct, isn't it? And is what the OP was talking about?
From everything I've seen, if you have normal BT Broadband and a TV package included, you can still only watch BT Sport online.
But I signed up yesterday for the 16Mb Unlimited broadband package that incorporates the BT Essentials television package (the one that is normally £5 per month), they are sending me a YouView box, but the girl I spoke to was very sure of herself in saying that I WILL be able to watch BT Sport on my TV from 1 August.
Not sure if that is via the YouView box or the TV aerial.
All I know is that is all seems very confused.
Is it possible that originally they wanted only Infinity customers to have BT Sport on the TV but have caved in to let any broadband customer with a BT TV package watch on TV?

I agree it is very confusing. I have delved into all the BT topics and websites I can find and it seems that BTSport will be available to those who have the latest black Vision box and a viewing card even though you don't have or can't get Infinity. ESPN however will only be available via broadband. At least that's how I have now interpreted it.
It does look as if BT are forcing those who are in an infinity area to sign up for it or lose the option to have BTSport as they wont give you the option of viewing it via the TV aerial.
I am currently out of contract with BB, phone and Vision and not able to get Infinity. I am waiting until after August 1st to see what happens for sure before committing to another contract.
Yes, if you have a BT Vision Black Box you will receive BT Sport via the DTT channels BT own which they currently broadcast Sky Sports on. You will need a viewing card for this.
However, nowhere do they say what will happen for those who migrated to YouView and who do not live within an Infinity area.
BT CS are consistently saying that BTSport will be available to those without Infinity and with a YouView box. TV Connect also adds a little hope to this dependent on line speed. I have also noticed that the latest Vision Player on Youview does a one-off speed test for streaming HD films. This is new to me.
The sooner they make it clearer the better or better still, they could hook me up with Infinity. I am literally no more than 200m away from the exchange but for some reason cannot get Infinity!
Looks like I'm in the same boat as Mr Allen. I've been assured I will get BT Sport on the TV, but by 1st August I will be well into the 18 month contract then, and it would be a bind to try to get out of.
Hopefully they will clarify it soon. I will double check with a separate advisor, I think, seeing as one I spoke to last week sold me a mish mash of two separate contracts, to make a contract which didn't exist, then they actually LOST my digital order!
My odyssey with BT has not got off to the most auspicious of starts.
The sooner they make it clearer the better or better still, they could hook me up with Infinity. I am literally no more than 200m away from the exchange but for some reason cannot get Infinity!
You case is not unique. They are hooking people further from exchanges up to infinity first because they will gain the bigger improvement. Whats the point in 200m of cable to the cabinet if you then have 400m of copper? its no faster. How far are you from your cabinet?

victorslot, Do this -
Ring Sky and tell them your a BT triple play customer who may be willing to move if the deal is good enough. And believe me, they'll offer you a deal. And write it all down.
Then, armed with your Sky deal info, ring BT and see what they'll offer you to stop you leaving. You'll be surprised.
In fact, I would recommend everyone out of contract does the above. Because BT are offering discounts galore atm for legacy customers who are up for renewal.

There is though, 600m on ADSL2 wouldn't be as fast as 400m on VDSL2 so in your example it'd still be worth upgrading.

Haven't got a clue where the nearest Cabinet is tbh. We are plumbed directly into the exchange. Essentially, we need a cabinet in the exchange but there isn't the space in the exchange or so I'm told. Plus we're still on aluminium cabling even though BT says they haven't got any left!
Right - I just had a chat online with somebody from BT. They confirmed that non-Infinity, non-black BT Vision+ customers will be able to watch BT Sport through their TV, but not on HD - all of this contradicts the info available on the BT website, even the HD bit, as their site simply says order before a certain date to get the HD channels free.
Ah well, that's not a problem really, and at least I have something in writing now should this not be the case.
The info on BT's website though is shockingly inaccurate. Here is the chat I had, highlighted the most important part:
Me: Hi Rudradeep, thanks. You have my account number there, I basically want confirmation that I will be able to watch BT Sport on my TV through the new YouView box which is being sent to me next week, as I was told by your representative on the phone when she took my order.
Me: What she told me seems to contradict all the information currently available from BT, which is that to watch BT Sport on the TV, you need to be either an Infinity customer, or have the black BT Vision+ box with a viewing card.
Rudradeep: Yes, the BT Sport will be launched since 01/08/13 and from that date you will receive the BT Sport at free of cost
Me: Yes, and I will be able to watch it online, which is what is being advertised.
Rudradeep: On TVas well.
Me: Even though I don't have Infinity or a black BT Vision+ box? Do you know why this is not advertised anywhere?
Rudradeep: All the BT broadband customers can view the BT Sport on there TV
Rudradeep: Therefore please be assured about this'
Rudradeep: The only thng is Infinity customer will get the BT Sport in HD and you will not getthe HD stuff
There was a 'limited' announcement over on the Community forum. Here it is (relating to black BTV boxes) -
Hi guys,
As some of you have said already in this thread, the way we deliver Sky Sports 1 & 2 is changing so from late June it will no longer be delivered over the TV aerial.
Some customers in non-fibre areas will be able to keep Sky Sports streamed over their broadband instead of delivered over their TV aerial – this is new technology known as ‘Broadband Channels’. This new technology won’t work for all customers though, so some customers in non-fibre areas will lose Sky Sports from late June as they cannot get Infinity or Broadband Channels
We appreciate that this is really disappointing for Sky Sports viewers on BT Vision who cannot get BT Infinity and for whom Broadband channels won’t be available either. ALL of these BT TV customers will automatically get BT Sport for free from 1st August.
We are writing out to all affected customers so if you haven’t already received that letter it should be with you soon and explains what’s happening in more detail. If you have any concerns not covered in the letter please get in touch with the Mod team via the email link in my profile page.
Good news Skilgannon if accurate. I'm fairly confident that my ASDL will have enough welly to manage the Channels, HD included but it is the misinformation which is so annoying. Only a little while longer to find out either way. I notice that the software rollout on YouView has slowed as well - there was a recent update which added "Internet Channels" which has now stopped being rolled out.
Ring Sky and tell them your a BT triple play customer who may be willing to move if the deal is good enough. And believe me, they'll offer you a deal. And write it all down.

Thanks for the tip will definitely try this come August.
The poster on the other forum could check which SD format BT Retail are using by checking the horizontal resolution. That would tell us if it is the regular or premium profile. As I say I don't have those channels yet so I can't check.
How can the other poster on the other forum do that, though? Does the BT Vision PVR let you examine the properties of a recorded file, or export it as a direct stream copy for analysis on a PC?
Haven't got a clue where the nearest Cabinet is tbh. We are plumbed directly into the exchange. Essentially, we need a cabinet in the exchange but there isn't the space in the exchange or so I'm told. Plus we're still on aluminium cabling even though BT says they haven't got any left!
Plumbed straight into the exchange explains why you cant get FTTC then, because you dont have one!
What is now clear is that the new channels will be offered over both fibre and ADSL2 lines. Subject to line speed and technical limitations. Infinidim has asked the BT Mods directly what these are. But they have not responded. Or indeed, they have just ignored him.
Didn't know it was a secret. BT certainly don't do themselves any favours do they?
BT certainly don't do themselves any favours do they?
When I first went to go with BT the person I spoke with sold me a combination of packages, i.e. one that didn't exist - unlimited broadband for £16 per month but free for 6 months, and with the £5 monthly TV essentials built in, so I'd pay nothing at all for 6 months.
Of course one contract is £16pm BB free for 6 months, the other contract is £16pm BB with with £5 TV package built in, but you don't get 6 months free BB.
When I got a call from BT to confirm the order, they pointed out the error, and then couldn't find my order - even though it was done online, so must have been in their system.
Now I get a letter confirming my new order (with the £5pm built in to the BB contract, paying £16pm from the start), and there are three more things they didn't tell me, which weren't obvious on the website - one (very minor one) was the Sainsbury's voucher which I won't get because the actual order I placed was on the phone, not online (although maybe I should have spotted that one).
The other is a bigger deal - correct me if I'm wrong, but nowhere did it say the £5pm TV package only comes with the BB for 18 months, and the girl who took my order on the phone didn't tell me that either.
And they told me that I could watch BT Sport on my TV through my YouView box, but this letter tells me I have to buy a viewing card - something the girl on the phone didn't mention, but the first person I spoke to (who completely botched the order) did mention.

Exactly! What is it compared to freesat costs?
Thats listed here -
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2013/may/22/bbc-sky-bskyb-retransmission-fees
So the four PSB's pay Sky £10m a year (and the BBC £5m in that total). So its still cheaper via IP delivery.
Thanks for the tip will definitely try this come August.
