Now that's not necessary is it?

Vista alone is worse than a sledgehammer ;)

So just skip the Vista install and go grab that sledgehammer? :D

Pity you can't get the motherboard (or even just the processor) out of it. Taking that home and popping it in the microwave on full for about 20 seconds will do it the world of good from what I've heard.

Not that it helps your situation op but I just moaned and moaned about mine at work and ended up getting a new one + a bigger monitor.

    And destroy your microwave!

There are some really stupid/dangerous comments now. I'm sure the OP is sensible enough not to try any of them, but other readers might.

Flash the BIOS and pull the plug after the erase cycle.

Or better still, flash with something like Uniflash and force the wrong BIOS.

Last resort, if it's a non-soldered BIOS chip in the board, just pull it and bin it.

Do a clean install and don't stress the system watching youtube on company time.

I'm looking into getting a more recent tower somewhere and using it instead. Thanks for the suggestions, none of which I think I'll use!

I can feel the OP's pain... they probably just want to get on with their work, rather than to wait around for things to load.

Surely thats better all round.... been more productive.

Why not (assuming you have access to a another machine, a laptop for instance) set up a demo to your boss. Take 4 or 5 routine tasks you do each day, including boot up of the machine and time them from start to finish. Do this on both machines and if there is a substantial difference that time can be converted into 'lost' hours..... multiply this by the days in the week/month/year and you may well convince your boss that you are actually trying to SAVE him money.

Including reinstalling the OS or giving the machine a damn good clear up?

I love these type of threads!

Depeding on where and how your computet tower is situated, move it around really quick whilst it is still powered on, or better still, 'accidentally' knock the tower over onto the floor, which can end up damaging the hard disk drive severely due to a read/write head crash!

The OS was only recently installed, the computer doesn't need a clean-up, there's barely anything on it and I virus scan and malware scan it every week.
