SERIOUS ISSUE- "Image Discrimination" By Sophie & LI Bosses??

Hear me out folks.

The week Kate was introduced into the Island, I remember hearing Sophie say that she had listed 3 people in her contract that she didn't want to appear on LI with for "image reasons" and Michelle McManus, Kate Lawler and someone else where on the list. According to Sophie, the modelling world doesn't mix with talentless people . I've just remembered this and can't quite understand why the issue wasn't debated on this forum . Is it now ok to openly discriminate against people because it doesn't suit your own image? I can't believe the LI bosses actually let her put this in her contract (even though they obviously disregarded it by sending Kate in), except, of course, she didn't actually give this as a reason for not wanting them on!

More worryingly, who is Sophie to discriminate against people for "image reasons"

Talentless people what like most of the poeple on that island?

They probably put it in her contract to get her on knowing full well she would not walk off.

As I understand it there were others on the contract that included her exes and he ex's new girlfriend.

You're right, it's quite wrong, but Sophie's not the only one to judge people and dismiss them because their image is "wrong".

Someone on here said that Kate Lawler was "too ugly to be on Love Island"! There has been endless discussion about Kate's appearance, her hair, the condition of her skin and there is really nothing wrong with her. But even if there were, are we really saying that a person with a bad haircut, spots and a bulging waistline, not to mention not enough cash to buy good clothes, is worth less than someone who's lucky enough to be better looking and better off?

There was a comment from one of the producers that they hadn't broken the terms of Sophie's contract - so maybe her protection of her own image rights and their value wasn't as water-tight as she and her agent thought.

I think it can only be discrimnatory if it's against a set of defined people, not a named person.

That said, it's not unheard of for things like this to be written into a contract (although I've never heard of it for an RTV show). Sophie actually twisted her contract details. She cannot say who does/doesn't go on LI as it isn't her show. What her contract would have said is that she has the option to break the contract (ie. walk off the show without penalty) IF any of the named persons appears on LI. Kate arrived and Sophie chose not to leave.

Ooh harsh. I personally wouldn't have wanted McManus on the island but that is down to my dislike of her persona that I have seen and her really really really annoying voice nothing to do with her weight. :o

They would have asked all of them who they wouldn't want on there so that if it got dull they could spice it up.

I think we did debate the point re Sophie but it was sooooo long ago that I can't remember.

Someone posted a link on here to a press release from Natalka the show's producer, in it she says clearly that by sending Kate into the resort, they've not broken any terms of Sophie's contract.

So whatever Sophie thinks, the show is quite clear that they're legally in the right.

Who knows Sophie's reasoning (or lack of it) behind her "requsets" but this one seems to have challenged her and worked out.

I'm not thinking very coherently right now, but I suppose I'm trying to say, Sophie demanding not to be with certain people is pretty shocking but it's shown what has happened when those demands aren't listened to. It's worked out positively.

I've worded all this really badly but if anyone can try and make sense of it, i'll appreciate it :o

Love Island insider: 'we didn't break terms of Sophie's contract'
By Natalka Znak / Reality TV 04:32pm

We're still here, it's still raining but since my last blog we've been compared to Shakespeare and Brecht, been blamed for the fall of Charles Allen and watched the ratings steadily rise.

It's certainly been eventful but out here in Fiji we worry about more practical things, like losing one of our personal favourites Paul Danan to the vagaries of the public vote and bringing in a series of controversial new faces.

I was massively in favour of bringing in Calum Best, although this caused some debate, as like Paul, he was on the show last year. But not only is he a recent ex of Sophie Anderton, he's also Bianca's dream man. True to form he's worked his charm and Bianca seems to have fallen for him big time.

Next up was the return of Lady V. Why did we fly her out? Well we sat and watched as Sophie talked about how her friend Victoria wouldn't mind her getting off with Chris Brosnan because she would understand.

We knew very well that Victoria did not understand as she poured out her true feelings to us in her daily emails. Even so, we didn't expect her to get here and pour a bottle of wine over Sophie's head! It was a tough day for Sophie and a very emotional and revealing show.

But she is a fantastically resilient character as she showed in the way she dealt with the arrival of the next newbie, Kate Lawler. As the boys went off to fetch the new girl Sophie said it couldn't be Kate "as it's in her contract". Of course I can't reveal any contract details but I can say that no, we did not break the terms of Sophie's contract, although of course we did know that Kate was not her favourite person.
I haven't done a show before where we bring in so many new people but it is something that we had planned right from the start. You just can't have 10 people for seven weeks on Love Island, because I'm pretty sure the love would run out very quickly.

Our houseguests and new characters have really added to the show and it's not over yet... Bianca's got a big surprise in store when Leo returns on Sunday night's show. Will he reclaim or disown his woman? I can't wait to see what happens.

Kate seems like a nice enough girl but lets face it, she's only famous for winning a popularity contest - hardly a talent.

Michelle on the other hand has proved her talent by winning a 'talent contest' and proving she can sing. What's her problem with her, except the obvious?

Kate got her break by winning BB3 But she has done a lot of things since then. She is currently quite a well respected live dj on the specialist "house music"scene.(albeit probably less respected now than 2 weeks ago).See katelawler.net and diary for details. You could easily make a case that Kate is more talented than Sophie.Sophie has a higher profile and has been around more.
As it happens Kate seems to be Sophies favourite Islander now.

 Have you heard her?

She won because she got the sympathy vote, if she was so good then why was her album and single a flop?

Because she didn't have the X Factor.

She's not exactly to my taste but in all fairness, the girl can sing.

You're probably missing the point. Winning the biggest popularity contest in the country - BB - means that you have a personality that makes you - popular. Kate actually wins partly for being very funny - which is another talent most of the other female Islandes don't have.

Being a top model means that you look like a top model - you could have no personality or sense of humour at all.

The last thing you want to see as a z list celeb on Love Island is someone who the public likes coming in. If they vote for them once teh public may do it again.

Michelle is a bit in between - she wins for a talent - but she also wins for being the personality as there were arguably better singers.

    .

Agreed, I remeber her voice/acent being hideous.

Not to mention that I would not want to see her spilling out of her swimming cossie. Yuk

I think part of our problem is that we judge people on the way that they look first, which is natural, but ultimately wrong.

They'res descrimination everywhere, you only have to go into a newsagents & look at the front covers of magazines or watch the ads on tv.

Beauty as they say, is only skin deep.

You said Kate had no talent.

She has the most relevant talent though to being on Love Island - people like her in large enough numbers to win public votes. In her case part of the reason for that is that she is funny - which is a talent.

By comparison the other celebs are there for talents that have nothing to do with being popular with the public or in some cases have no talent at all but are just children of talented parents.

Michelle was clearly not the best singer on her series - winning had something to do with other weightier factors. She wins partly on talent but partly because she also appeals to the voters - which is exactly what Kate did.
