Many comedians today rate Allen and Baxter very highly and coming from Glasgow Boyle couldn't but be aware of Baxter and his comic legacy. Just because these comedians are not of your generation doesn't make them crap. In fact these two were the forerunners of Boyle and thinking what offence they gave re The Royals and religion 3 decades ago and more, without their input, comics like Boyle wouldn't exist.
I've heard like others on here that he wants to retire from touring and write for others. Hey ho Frankie - go and do it then. And just because I don't like him as a comedian doesn't make me exempt from having an opinion. Boyle lovers are a sensitive lot when it comes to criticism of their idol it seems..:D
I never said that they were crap. Did you read my post? I basically said that he was famous and people would know who he is so for good or bad he's getting his name out there which will no doubt get him fans. If people don't like him then he's lost nothing.
You absolutely have the right to have an opinion but it's strange to post that you'd like to see the back of him when it's you who are starting threads about him.
You (and a couple of others) seem to gloat and put down about people giving an opposing point of view to your criticisms.
Difference is, Hilary Mantel's comments were taken out of context mainly by DM reader types. Her lecture was about the perception of Royalty, not a personal pop at Kate.
No danger of that with Boyle however. He's hasn't Ms Mantel's intellect.
Its exacty the same. A kneejerk reaction by monarchists to any criticism. Its the peasant mentality.

The concept of 'debate' has passed you by then? It's all about having different opinions.

Not at all. Anyway, this is about Boyle and not criticism of other FM's.
Don't see what the problem is here... the PM joke was funny... the only censorship of comedy should be the off switch... I don't like a lot of FB's stuff but hey humour is subjective... I really cannot be bothered with the hysterical 'offended' by everything brigade... show some self censorship ffs and don't look... it isn't rocket science.
He said it, people are going to protest. If he can't stand the heat etc, perhaps he should do as others here have thought he might do, and leave TV and write for other people.
I, for one, would be glad to see the back of him.
Can I ask where you get the idea "he can't stand the heat"? Countless media sources have tried to whip up storms over him to get themselves attention, but he has never played their game. The only real response I can remember is him suing for being labelled a racist, an action he rightly won.
I have a mixed opinion of Frankie Boyle.
When I think of comedians such as Sarah Millican, Michael MacIntyre they mostly leave me cold.
I find roughly half of Frankie Boyle's stuff funny. I didn't particulary like the Royle Jokes, not because I'm a Royalist. I wouldn't want to live the life in a posh prison.
Just comes across as lazy comedy pandering to people who hate them. I am generally indifferent to the Royals.
If we didn't have Royals, we would still have some hierachy of some sort.

Agree with you.:)
For myself, I don't find him offensive, I think he just tries too hard to offend everyone and he's wildly unfunny. IMO of course.
In your opinion. Humour is subjective. You do not care for Boyle, I do. We have appreciation of different huomour but it does not mean I do not have a sense of humour and you do.
I beg to differ, they have a chip on their shoulder and hide behind words such as comic and joke to defend someone being offensive.
I'm sure Bernard Manning and his fans would have defended him as just being a comedian telling funny jokes.
I bet Socialists found Kenny Everrets joke about bombing and Michael Foot offensive, from the Morning Star, note how the paper takes the fun out of the joke to point out Michael's dice with death....
Amid thunderous applause at a Young Conservatives' rally, comedian Kenny Everett leapt on to the stage and roared: "Let's bomb Russia!" and "Let's kick Michael Foot's stick away!"
In fact Foot's mobility problems resulted largely from a terrible near-fatal car crash in Herefordshire 20 years before, which had inflicted severe injuries both on him and his wife, feminist film-maker and writer Jill Craigie.
I'd have some sympathy for Frankie Boyle but he and his fans being offended by what others say does seem hyporcritical.
Anyway I'm sure he's carved out a niche market who will pay a premium to see him perform.
I do not mind insult comedy and I often found him funny in the past. But this time the only thing I laughed at was the joke about the Pope, the rest was rather meh IMO.
I don't personally find him that funny as comedian. But i do find it highly entertaining to see the "outrage brigade" getting so lividly offended over his remarks. So in that respect, may he long continue to push the boundaries of taste and decency.
I think a lot of people find it cool to like a subversive comedian, but at the end of the day he's just lazy. It's very easy to take the rise out of people or sections of society who can't answer back. I doubt if it takes him longer than 10 minutes to find a 'routine' as he probably sits down and looks at a list of subjects he can have a go at and says to himself 'Oh look. ''Disabled'', ''Royals'', ''Papacy'' - I'll write some stuff on that so I can have a go'.
Earlier in the thread someone said he'd been telling the 'Queen joke' last September at a gig, so it wasn't topical then and it's even less topical now 9 months after the Jubilee. The 'Kates pregnancy' joke's out of date too as most of us got the picture that she was pregnant last November.
FB fans seem to be being taken the pi$$ out of by FB himself by shortchanging them with out of date jokes.
Perhaps someone should tell him and his fans that the Emperor hasn't any clothes.
Couldn't even be ar*ed to write something new for Comic relief. Ha.

Ditto - to be honest he reminds me of a young kid discovering a 'naughty' word for the first time, and then using it as often as possible to get a reaction from everyone around them (my nephews always seemed to discover 'bum' first )

He can be funny but, like most with an addictive personality, is hampered by his own self destruct button, first by the booze to destroy his life and now by these tasteless outbursts to destroy his career, he needs to sort himself out and do the job hes paid for rather than direct his self hatred out at others
Yeah, me too. He was genuinely funny, back when his satire had bite and intelligence.
Sad to say as awful as Boyle now is, if the choice were him and McIntyre, no competition. Boyle. That's how grimly unfunny I think McIntyre is.
Agree with you two, Used to like him in MTW and I really liked his black, close to the bone humour. However, he has lot his edge and just seems to enjoy getting reaction though.

Of course not:
Your opening statement:
I can see he's going to be totally banned from TV now

Some of it was on BBC 1 not half an hour ago. (Worse luck).
How wrong can you be?

'Bum' *snigger*
Boyle makes me think of this too.

It is confusing, isn't it.
So I guess the thread was just to generate Daily Mail-type finger-wagging outrage then?
Mary Whitehouse is amongst us:D
