Wouldn't mind. I do mind it being dumbed down. The general knowledge questions are much easier than they used to be. Sad.

    He was French, surely?

I agree the GK questions seem easier these days - or maybe I'm just older and have accrued more general knowledge!

Final of Mastermind used to be a big event. Disappointing conclusion to the series with little in the way of promotion, low winning score and lack of celebrity presenter of trophy.

Still an enjoyable show but well past it's prime.

Even the winner said he'll store bananas in the bowl.

Anyone who says the show is too dumbed down should apply and win it.

I applied this year and got an audition. they gave 20 questions (I think I got half right)

haven't heard back. probably blew it when they asked me about my specialist subject, the battleship the bismarck, and I admitted I didn't even know what happened to it :D

The lady did my main specialist subject - the operas of Verdi, and from the comfort of my armchair I did a lot better than she. :-)

I liked the on-site film preambles and listening to the contestants speak about their subjects.

Rather a shame they couldn't find some kind of prominent person to present the trophy. Also, why can't they get a little cash prize to got with a bowl to keep the bananas in. Five grand would seem about right. I like the pure questions of the Mastermind format, but I guess the format is rather dull compared to other shows.

Funny to see Kevin the egghead in his days as a Mastermind winner, with a rather dodgy mustache.

You were well and truly sunk after that.

Thanks for confirming that. I thought it was Kevin Ashman, and pretty sure that was dear old Patrick Moore presenting.

I think prominent is a better term than celebrity.

Also, I kind of like that it isn't a cash prize. The honour is being the brainy winner with a token trophy. The title is the main thing.

Scottish blokie did mine, the music of the 1970s, and I got one more point than him. Would have totally blown it on the general knowledge, though.
