A client's wife wanted to see this film so I accompanied her to a screening. About 35 minutes in, she wanted to leave as she was bored. After dropping her off at their hotel, I went back to the cinema and watched the film (I do not like walking out on a film, no matter how bad, grotesque or dull it is). So I was in a bad mood for having to watch the rest of this film I didn't even want to see.
Verdict: It's a film for actors. It's not about the plot, scams, the human nature, costumes, bad hairstyles or such. It's all about acting. It does have funny and good moments, but as a whole, it's not for me. Highlights of the film: Christian Bale and Jeremy Renner, which was a pleasant surprise as I don't usually think much of Renner. I liked the sub-plot involving them the most, too. Most of the grade are for them.
I had a Gene Hackman double bill last night. The French Connection followed by The Conversation. In both films Hackman plays obsessed characters but totally different.
In The French Connection he's cop "Popeye" Doyle who is hell bent on breaking up a drug smuggling ring. In The Conversation, he's a surveillance expert who stumbles on a possible murder plot.
Both films show Hackman's range. Doyle is a brash, aggressive, bull in a china shop character. His character of Harry Caul in The Conversation is the opposite, an introverted, lonely and paranoid man.
Two great performances from one of the screen's best actors.
12 Years A Slave - definitely uncomfortable viewing, but incredibly powerful and emotional. I now completely understand why it's winning all the awards it has been getting, and I can ignore a few minor complaints due to the overall impact of the performances, story and cinematography. Everyone needs to see this, 9.5/10.
'Let the right one in' on BBC iplayer last night. Nearly gave up on it but continued mainly to double check my internet problems had been fixed & it wouldn't buffer.

It was easy viewing but, at the same time, the story didn't grip me.

Wow what a load of clichéd baloney! Cringe worthy in places, farcical, flat, clunky directing, unsatisfying and it gets 7.9/10 on imdb ?
what the hell??
7/10
Enjoyable quirky comedy.

I gave it a 4 out of 10.
Passable psychological thriller. It's a British remake of an old French film (which I've never seen) so it might appeal to fans of French cinema.
7/10
Emanuelle Seigner was so good. I was a bit lost at the end.
Don't waste your money/10.
Made me want to play GTA 5 right away!
(In Spanish with English subtitles - Lovefilms)
A-mazing
This was on Five a few weeks back never heard of it but my mun likes it will have to check it out.
If you can excuse some very implausible actions by the central characters, this is quite a decent Mexican horror.
