Long time members with high post counts yet never heard of them

How is it that every so often someone will post a thread from someone who I've never heard of or never noticed before yet has been a member for years and has loads of post counts. It's like, how come you've been a member so long and cranked up so many posts yet I've never until now ever heard of you?

Anyone else experienced this?

I remember a few months ago, someone stated that there's a member on here who has a post count of about 500,000 posts! :o That has to be a world record.

I just assume that they must post in a sub-forum that I don't post in.

I saw one recently who had been banging out circa 10,000 posts a year for several years, 10 x my measily efforts and I am on most days.
Then I checked out his/her most recent posts and they were mostly one or two word replies on pretty crappy threads.
It should be about quality old boy, not quantity. :-)

Some posters get noticed more for unusual, controversial, irritating, interesting, funny or dumb posts. Others stay in the background. It's no big deal.

Yup. I've never paid much attention to them either. There's a handful of people I might recognise but mostly I reply to the post, not to the poster.

I don't really pay attention to usernames, post counts and join dates.

If someone is really rude and arrogant and there are a lot of people like that on DS, especially in the technology section, I might glance at their username and think "oh God, not them again".

If only I had known this fact before I ventured there for the first time yesterday!

I suggest you look at their posts. Most of them are in chatter and not on the new members thread.

I wonder how high their post count really is.

I never notice people's post counts or anything. And there are loads of forums I don't visit, so it wouldn't surprise me anyway.

I've been on here 10 years and I really only post in the TV forums, so like many others, if you don't follow my interests, you'll never have heard of me!

Not that I have a high post count for over 10 years!

Some people mainly post in games threads on the different forums, where it's easy to clock up several hundred posts a day with only a few words or even just one.
