You've heard it now then. Welfare claimants get a festive lesson. Excellent!
It's made my Christmas, particularly as I'm flush.

What harm have these people done to you,

Any decent sort would offer a public apology for this.

I feel sorry for those who derive pleasure from the misfortune of these people.

If we make it through December
Everythings gonna be all right I know
It's the coldest time of winter
And I shivver when I see the fallin snow

If we make it through December
I got plans of bein in a warmer town come summer time
    Maybe even California
If we make it through December we'll be fine

I got laid off down at the factory
And there timings not the greatest in the world
Heaven knows I been workin' hard

Now I don't mean to hate December
It's meant to be the happy time of year

Why daddy can't afford no Christmas here

If we make it through December
Everythings gonna be alright I know

I know you like bashing the government but pensioners aren't even affected. Our pension went in as usual.

The government didn't do this, it was an admin error by the DWP.

Hey ho though, it just what you do.

You may not be affected but others are. From the story: In "a very few cases" people owed pension-related arrears have also been affected.

You might point out the "a very few cases" bit, but, there are still pensioners affected. Not you though, which, is, super news.

I think the people waiting for that payment would disagree, as most people waiting for payment have no reserve even for a couple of days.

Anyone knowing of the many changes that happen in people's lives when claiming benefits knows that UC is not going to work.

Any change in Child Tax Credit has causes thousands of people grief over many years - as long as the payments are regular the system copes, when something changes it goes pear-shaped.

IDS is prepared to experiment because he couldn't care less about the disruption and distress he is causing people.

As someone who was one of the 32,000 people who were kept waiting for their benefits payments over Christmas, I agree that the DWP certainly need to get their act together and stop fobbing people off with their lame excuse of an "admin error" every time they fail to make payments when promised, especially over a Bank Holiday period when their offices are likely to be closed for a number of days. Luckily I had family and friends I could rely on for help but some people aren't that fortunate. I dread to think how anyone with children would cope if they had no family, friends or even neighbours to turn to and needed to feed their children and couldn't access a foodbank.

Angela - I am very sorry to hear that you were let down by DWP. They are an absolute disgrace. I have also read several of your other posts and recognise you have had a tough year. I hope 2014 is a much nicer one for you.

Sorry to hear that, Angela. I was one of those affected too, (but as I said further up the thread I had been able to keep some money by, just in case), plus I'm single with no kids so the problem was just mine to deal with. The DWP money was in my bank account today, thankfully. Hope yours was too. :)

Benefits not paid in time, I expect the frothing at the mouth scrounger bashers will be please otherwise for us normal people another DWP failure

    Benefits not paid today

    'Normal people' guffaw!

This is a forum where the vast majority who post are Socialists. Socialism died with Kinnock (Maybe a little bit of Smith) and will never return to Britain (England anyway.... Who knows what Scots will do)

Regardless of the issue concerning the OP subject, life should be very challenging on benefits!

    This is outrageous!
    This is the final straw!
Iain Duncan Smith and his cruel team of ministers should be ashamed!
Iain Duncan Smith needs to be sacked!
I hope Ed Miliband picks this up at next pmqs. or Rachel Reeves at WP questions.
I think. There needs to be a statement from IDS about this.

But these people have no idea of what life is really like on benefits, they just read the Daily Mail and Sun stories about "scroungers" living a life of luxury sitting on their arse and believe that it's true.

I think they must secretly know that, otherwise wouldn't they be rushing to get themselves sacked so they can live the life of riley they seem to envy so much? Just like how they know that prison isn't the all expenses paid 5 star hotel they like to say it is, otherwise they'd be committing crimes to get in there!

I hope you all got your money sorted out. We were on benefits 21 years ago due to an accident my hubby had. I had to leave my job to care for him. We had 3 very young children. It was a nightmare trying to get benefits. We also had a mortgage which we had to pay. Nightmare. It might help if everyone did have to live on benefits for a month or so.

I'm not knocking the system in general (and it's going to be a damn sight better now IDS is reforming it). ... It's the dregs of society who wish to exploit it, you and me!
