He maybe a nice guy, but I just don't get him, and he acts like he can't be arsed, the way he talks and that, plus when he sings it's like watching someone having a drunken fit kind of thing, it's strange and annoying lol plus I don't think he is as good as some people are making, imo, Jahmene has the strangest voice out of the male singers.
He comes across as surly, like he thinks the show is beneath him and he's a miserable bugger. As a huge MJB fan, I found tonights performance excruciating. If you want to hear that song done with passion, watch her Later performance
I love him, his singing, his style, his demeanour. Ok I know this is akin to sacrilege but he reminds me just a bit of Ian Curtis with Joy Division and for that alone he is certainly different to anyone we've had on the X Factor before.
Agreed!
Yes he can sing but I am heartily sick of him singing about pain and the judges falling over themselves about how he is releasing all this emotion.
It just goes on and on and on... He loves nothing better than wallowing in a cesspit of his own misery and that's all he can do.
A miserable one trick pony and totally lacking in likeability factor.
Oh here we go again with the 'one trick pony' thing on the DS XF forum. What a surprise!!
Look if you wnat 'all round entertainers' who can juggle while they moonwalk and sing a 'My Way' with a rap middle 8, then fine, there is plenty of mediocre middle of the road all round flexible rubbish to choose from. Me, I like my ponys to do just ONE trick if thay do it as WELL as James does his. What is so great about being a multi tricked pony FGS?
James is amazing. It is a shame his social awkwardness is deemed as arrogance while Jahmene's is endearing. He is talented and far more relevant than most of the other contestants, he just does not seem able to deal with the trappings that come alongside being a performer.
As for unlikeable contestants (assuming we mean for arrogance & demeanour rather than novelty acts), well:
Steve Brookstein
Ben Mills
Katie Waissell
Cher LLoyd
are 4 that spring to mind instantly! I am sure there are more, especially if we think about the joke acts like Chico/Wagner etc...
Have to agree, he is no doubt getting his head filled back stage saying he is going to win, which is adding to it. However the more cocky and up himself he gets the less likely he is to win.
Having said what he said about digitalspy and its readers he already had an uphill battle.
I find his performances dull and boring, good singer or not it is about entertainment and i do not find him that.
I'm not a huge fan, his lack of diction annoyed me. But I loved his passion last night. I think I would enjoy a live set, wondering when he would finally lose it.
I think the hate comes from the judges reactions to him, yeah he is OKish, bit over the top and looks very uncomfortable on stage, but the judges never mention it and make out his is the Jesus of singing. I think people watch at home and think were is all this coming from, he is slightly above average at best and has a long way to go to be a superstar like they are making out.

So, so true. It was especially irritating, for me, with Janet Devlin - who I thought was great. Then she made a hash of Mmm-bop (as any self-respecting singer should) and we had pages and pages of ONE TRICK PONY!!!!!!
But it's probably not the place for James or Janet - they're not karaoke singers. The X Factor - a karaoke docusoap.
I don't find him unlikeable at all. He seems like one of the nicest and most genuine contestants this series judging by his interviews. Just because he doesn't smile constantly during his time on stage doesn't mean he's miserable, arrogant or whatever other comments I've seen about him.
I doubt any contestant could ever be more unlikeable than Misha either.
Rachel Hylton in '08 for me. Obnoxious ex junkie, granny mugger. After she was eliminated she rolled out the old cliches about it was because she was an ex addict, mugger, single mum, etc. No, doll, you just weren't that good in the end. That was the reason.
Comments
Well he is, can't remember another bloke who can sing, rap and play the guitar?
keep dreaming
Why?? It's my opinion. I am neither for or against the guy, but there is no denying the fact that he is a good singer.
Also because he is not popular on DS makes no difference to the general public. The whole of the UK do not post on this forum.
Her and Danyl Johnson are definitly on a par of awfulness.
Followed by mk1

Very little objective comment about singing. James was so right about DS.
However, there have been worse. For me Katie Waissel, Cher Lloyd, Frankie Cocciza, Eoghan and probably numerous others I have forgotten.
Just my opinion.

You forgot embarrassingly infantile.
The most unlikeable contestant for me was Cher Lloyd.
