CS: Katie Redford is 25

For some reason and I have no idea why ITV is listing her age 19 on publicity and all reference to her real age seems to have been wiped from the internet. I had noticed her old tag on twitter and email begins with Katieredford89 so I did some snooping and have found evidence that she was in fact born on 2nd March 1989.

The above link is a cached version of her CV from a website and this infact confirms her true date of birth.

Why is ITV trying to cover this up like MI6?

She is 25 nearly 26 but will be playing a 14 year old.

Well done to the OP for finding this evidence. Myself and some other forum members had looked into Katie upon her casting announcement and saw so much evidence relating to the actress' age, that we felt compelled to discuss the issue between us. As the day wore on yesterday all such evidence began to disappear from all online sources!! I feel more angry that Katie and ITV think they can just delete her past and make us look like fools rather than just admitting the casting of a much older actress, but explaining the necessity.

As I've said numerous times, I have no problem with Katie playing Bethany but I'm pissed off that we're treated like idiots!

Look out for her. Doesn't look at all like a 14 year old lol. not surprised they've felt compelled to lie about it though.... she's less than 2 years younger than her mother's meant to be!

In ITV's defence it does say on her CV that she can play parts aged between 15-25 years old. As Bethany is soon to be 15 I can see why she was given the opportunity.

I think it's the way that ITV have suddenly knocked 6 years off her age and treating viewers as dumb is the real problem here.

The character is not supposed to look 14, she's supposed to look at least 18-19, old enough to drink.
Reminds me a lot of Laura Aikman, who's currently in Waterloo Road as one of the teachers.

I agree and the cynic in me wants to say that ITV would like to say she's younger again (ie nearer Bethany's age), but the 2 Girls, 1 Flat web series makes it pretty hard for them to say she's under 18.

I have noticed a lot of the casting announcements are describing Katie Redford as "the new Michelle Keegan" - the exact phrase is identical so I'd take an educated guess that they are quoting ITV publicity; is it just me or is it a bit off to be touting someone playing an under-aged character as the replacement for your big sex-symbol?

I signed up to this forum yesterday and have been waiting to get my account validated. I just wanted to say that Katie was in my year at school, so she would be 25/26. I can't believe the number of sources who said she is 19.

This just shows how out of touch Coronation Street are with reality.

The fact that the actress is older than the character she is playing doesn't bother me all that much. In fact, Corrie has quite a tradition for employing older actors and actresses to play younger characters. The Platt family are very much the stalwarts of Corrie production team playing around with actor and character ages: when Gail first appeared in 1974, Helen Worth was 23 playing a 16 year old girl. Fast forward to 1979 and Sue Nicholls erupted onto the cobbles as Audrey, only 8 years older than the actress who was playing her 21-year old daughter! Tina O'Brien was 16 at the time of her casting as 12 year-old Sarah and Ben Price was cast as Nick who is 10 years younger than him. Jack P Shepherd as David is the only member of the family who plays anything remotely close to his character's age, with Jack born in 1988 and David in 1990.

I agree with other FMs that the real problem is ITV trying to stage some 'cover up' around this. Just be honest and upfront about it and let viewers decide if the actress fits the role when her first scenes air. Don't take us for mugs, just fess up!.

Might be a problem though with Tina O'Brian looking young for her age. There are thousands of jobbing actors around, so why on earth could they just not cast someone around-ish the age of her daughter's character? Same with the second Ryan, who looked about 5 years younger than his on-screen mother.

Casting someone near to 30 as a 15 year old is really just a LOL moment but then Nick is only meant to be 33 and looks about 50. So at least its a family trait.

I thought she was 19 but afterwards I found the now defunct twitter profile. Bloody hell. Surely they should have got someone who looked quite young considering Tina O'Brien will be her onscreen mother, they will look more like sisters with no age gap.

It does say on her CV that she can portray 16-20 year olds, although Bethany is 14

Lying about her age will eventually catch up with her, Coronation Street are not good with continuanity so good luck to them to keep her age under wraps for ever. What next will we have a happy 20th on her twitter.
