A family from Hednesford, Staffordshire were forced to flee their home and have it fumigated after finding hundreds of potentially deadly spiders - in a bunch of bananas.

WARNING - SPIDER ALERT

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/10689098/Family-forced-to-flee-home-after-deadly-spiders-found-in-bananas.html

Pest controllers spent 24 hours fumigating their home but could not officially identify the spiders because you can only officially identify the spider when they are fully grown.

However, the family ' looked up different types of spiders online and found they looked identical to Brazilian Wandering Spiders - which are the most venomous spiders in the world.’

By the way, the man of the house, Jamie Roberts, suffers from arachnophobia.

Gives me the heebie jeebies.

I didn't realise they made nests inside the bananas. I think this has happened with regards to Sainsbury's too. I will have to go and google what to look out for when I go shopping next. :p

Did they literally flee or was the departure slightly more civilised than that?

erm i known this is not really a matter to laugh over but being bitten by this spider might not be all bad

"Aside from causing intense pain, the venom of the spider can also cause priapism in humans. Erections resulting from the bite are uncomfortable, can last for many hours and can lead to impotence. A component of the venom (Tx2-6) is being studied for use in erectile dysfunction treatments"

I used to work at a warehouse for a supermarket that handled fresh fruit everyday and there were posters all over the place saying that if you saw something exotic mixed in the bananas run for your life.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Morrisons and picked some bananas up to put them in the trolley, minute or two later i felt something move between my t-shirt and jumper but ignored it...then I felt it again. So I tried to grab whatever it was and heard a crunch and my t-shirt felt a bit damp.

I shook my clothes and probably the biggest (dead) spider i've ever seen fell out

It still makes my skin crawl now thinking about it lol.

Mrs Roberts, who works for HMRC, bought the pack of bananas from the OneStop store near their home.

I have no sympathy for her at all! Bwahahahahahaha! ;-)

They are a magnificent species and pretty large for a 'True' spider.

However for all you arachnophobes out there try googling the recently discovered Heteropda maxima, the largest 'True' spider in the world. :D

It featured recently in an episode of 'Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan' a few months ago on Channel 5.

Not one you would really want to find in your bath! ;-)
