50 years of JFK assassination, what's TV got planned?

I've been reading that this year will mark 50 years since JFK was killed, will there be any documentaries or anything on (preferebly new!).

I could've sworn I read ages ago that there was (another) series/one-off film about the event or something similar.

A topic that continues to fascinate me!

There was a very controversial miniseries a few years ago called the Kennedys which aired on BBC2.

Featured Tom Wilkinson and Greg Kinnear

I think JFK was assassinated the day before Dr Who started.

No doubt the documentary channels will be full of the conspiracy stuff come November.

I think everyone remembers where they were when Doctor Who started.

In many cases, of course, it was behind the settee.

They could make a really good movie about JFK, who of course was a highly attractive sex addict. It could be a bit like Percy's Progress. George Clooney would be a good choice to play him.

There've been plenty of documentaries over the years on most channels, conspiracy theories abound but nothing has ever been proved.

Considering how TV has "evolved" in the past half-century, I would expect the event to be commemorated with a game show and a reality series.

This post might make some sense in a world where everyone has seen all of Red Dwarf and remembers every episode, in this world it doesn't mean a lot.

As for the OP, I assumed it had all been said over the years, expect repeats of lots of stuff that's been previously aired, I suppose.

I'm sure the major broadcasters will have something planned.

Apart from maybe 9/11 I don't think a single day in history has been so minutely examined than 11/22/63.

Apart from a novel revisionist theory that LBJ did it with a Winchester from two cars back in the motorcade, it's all been done to death.

A number of TV shows, especially Sci-fi ones have done episodes to do with the Kennedy assassination. Quantum Leap is one which I remember.
I expect the BBC will show a documentary on it at least.

I am sure BBC 2 and 4 will do something fitting.

Maybe they could rush out a film version of stephen king's book "22/11/63".

Missing out the slushy romance bit, obviously.

I think it would be bad if there is nothing on the "main" channels to mark this day, even if just a repeat of a documentary/film/miniseries. Just no conspiracy theories, please. You need to show a bit more respect than that on such an historic anniversary, imho.

To put it in context, the biggest thing about it that was historic is that it was filmed. There have been other american presidents who were assassinated and none of them (including Lincoln: who's death was arguably more significant) get as much media treatment. The reason: no TV coverage.

Channel 5 with another theory programme where they work out all the angles and still tells us at the end it's inconclusive.

Reputedly on a quiz show. Along the lines of:

Question "Name the famous person shot in Dallas"
    Contestant "JR"

The Oliver Stone film JFK would suffice. Intelligent film and one of very few decent performances by Kevin Costner imo.

Even better would be the mini series, Kennedy, starring Martin Sheen, that was shown on ITV on the 20th anniversary. I don't remember it ever being shown again.
