You won't be alone and some people will be watching for the flesh on display. I really wouldn't be surprised if the ratings went up.

Splash is getting much less buzz on Zeebox this week. Only 700% this week whereas last week it was about 1500%. Also on zeebox Britains Brightest is getting 65/100 which is closer to Splash than last week when it had 40/100. This means that itv fans hoping the bad publicity would help its ratings go up is unlikely to materialise and its going to do a red or black in the ratings.

Any system which gives out scores such as '1500%' and '700%' buzz isn't one to take too seriously.

I do think it's in for a drop though. I'm thinking it'll average about 4m or so. Watching a bit of it now and they do seem to have made it a bit slicker and have changed a few elements. Still doesn't hide the basic format flaws though.

I personally wouldn't of scheduled silent witness for this season, knowing Lewis would be on. Being a fan of crime drama find it abut too much off the same thing. Both dramas are old school, you need variety!!

Splash! on ITV1 is generating approx 50% the Twitter engagement that it did last week.

could that mean that more people are engaged with the show itself, rather than talking about it on Twitter whilst they are (half) watching it?

I dont understand these Twitter types, either a show is worth your full attention or its not worth watching at all?

You wouldn't catch me Twittering during Doctor Who.

That's true but because they're on different channels Controllers will be thinking about variety on their own channels. Having said there are two on BBC1 this week with Silent Witness and Death In Paradise and ITV have two with Lewis and Midsomer Murders.

There's one reason why that is not reliable though, last week was the launch therefore inevitably you would have more comments saying 'it is crap' and so on and so forth. This week the same viewers may be watching, but have less incentive to tweet as they've seen it before. It's like how certain episodes of EastEnders or Coronation Street generate a lot of comment, yet ratings are always within 1m/2m.

This is the kind of show which is custom made and ideal for twitter comments, unlike dramas. The fact the twitter engagement is down so much from last week is a bad sign for its ratings. The ratings wont halve like the twitter engagement but everything points to the ratings theyre going to be down a lot from last week. Last weeks Splash wasnt even "so bad but its good" kind of show, it just put off viewers from last week from watching it again.

I take your point, not sure I like the idea that TV shows are being made with content that can be easily ignored, in order that viewers can have time to Twitter and not miss anything important.

Wasn't Tina, "It's garbage", "I'm doing it for the money", Malone meant to be diving tonight. Sacked? Surely there's not a third lot of contestants? Or is it a new lot of every week and the best ones go head to head?

Is it just me or do they show Night at the Museum 2 pretty much every month? That said it's interesting to see C4 putting out movies in the 7pm slot on Saturdays this month against a questionable line up on the main channels - they might just do rather well.

Changes to the next series of The Voice UK to try and stop the ratings drop.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/20980893
Danny O'Donoghue reveals The Voice format changes

Coach Danny O'Donoghue has revealed more details about what changes viewers can expect from the second series of The Voice.

Producers have already announced that there would be more blind auditions and fewer live shows in the new series.

Danny will return as coach and be joined by returning coaches will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Jessie J.

"There's loads of different changes, knockout stages, there's parts where we can steal each other's artists."

Talking at the Brits nominations, where The Script had been nominated for best international group, Danny admitted that the blind auditions had already been shot.

"They've tinkered with the format to actually make it a really, really great experience from start to finish," he said.

"We're mad excited about getting in to do season two."

Last year's The Voice was criticised for falling ratings when coaches stopped picking contestants with their spinning chairs.

More than seven million viewers tuned in to the final to see Leanne Mitchell crowned the winner of the singing contest.

But her debut single, a Whitney Houston cover, failed to reach the Top 40 in the Official Chart.

The BBC One controller, Danny Cohen said the show needs to change, stipulating more blind auditions and "more battles".

An 11-date tour, featuring performances by the BBC One talent show's eight finalists, was also cancelled following poor ticket sales.

The show is said to be the channel's biggest new entertainment programme on record, despite falling viewing figures. 9.2 million people watched it, including catch-up.

The show is due back on BBC One in the spring.

As I understand it, there are 2 or 3 heats, so there are different celebs this week.

EDIT: They've just said the final heat is next week.

Basically its the exact same format changes that were made to the US version this year. Not at all surprising.

On the subject of tonight's telly.

In totally anecdotal and meaningless evidence (probably about as reliable as Twitter) my mother watched Splash last week but went for Britain's Brightest and the BBC1 schedule this week. I've watched neither.

Changes that don't really make sense when one of the biggest complaints about the live shows were that they were rushed and too many left in each show. If they're having three live shows presumably they'll add the second Battle Round to get from 24-12, and then go from 12 to 8 to 4 over three weeks. It's a lazy fix really which fixes nothing - rather than addressing the issues with the live shows they're just axing half of them and just having more blind audition shows instead because they're convinced viewers only tuned in to see people spinning around on chairs.

And thanks Neil for all your updates today. Disappointed to see C4 do so well with a show which really shouldn't be airing at 9pm on a Friday night on C4, and not surprising to see First Time Farmers flop at 8pm. I've not watched it yet but suspect it could do better in another slot as Friday 8pm is a bit of a graveyard for C4.

Do they really have nothing better that they can air out of Celebrity Big Brother? And preferably something that doesn't have celebrity in the title. Its just crazy that they're going from 2 million at 9PM to less than 1 million at 10PM.

Interesting. It's basically typical BBC worthy not great but okay entertainment vs ITV grab the headlines and make some noise entertainment.

I watched Britain's Brightest because it's okay. But that is all it is. Fine. Splash I watched on delay last week and it's sings ITV1 to me. If there was less talking and the production values were good it would be a lot more watchable.

But I have changed my mind I think it will be down on last week!

I just want something to sit down to and drink the rest of the wine to. Then my wife will want another glass and have a go at me for having to much! :p Just to make it clear I am not an alcoholic! :D

It does look like everything apart from the one off screening of American Idol airing in the post-CBB slot is a one-off or short run series that doesn't continue beyond CBB.

Its the same format that's being used in the US and it works well.

    Blind Auditions
    Battle Rounds (with 'Coach steals')
    Knock Out Round
    Live Shows

The Knock Out round is an extension of the Battle Round concept. Two singers on stage at the same time but rather than singing the same song together each gets to chose a song of their own to sing and then one is eliminated by their coach. The coach steals in the Battle Rounds are a particularly good addition to the format. Adds a bit more drama to them.
