Probably on high alert because of the date, I think they were expecting something to happen today.

there were certainly quite a few coppers with automatic weapons wandering about the stations

Bomb scare? I thought it was an irate passenger?

God knows! I read that some bloke claimed to have a bomb, maybe he was the irate passenger. I wouldn't have thought they'd evacuate for some pissed off traveller though, they must have dozens of those a day :-D Mind you people with bombs don't usually tell the world about it ahead of time, so really I have no idea what actually went on.

The passenger pulled the emergency cord and said that he had a bomb.

The news bulletin had been announced, something of a sinister related, hope its nothing major to be concerned about. I work at central London station and always get eerie feeling of something bad might happen. Working in these environment can always be emotionally sensitive after things you see in news.

I go through Paddington twice a week going/returning to/from London to Edinburgh via Heathrow and I'm always minded to be security conscious.

Especially as a teenager I was almost caught up in the Kings Cross fire (passed through 30 minutes before), stations scare me greatly.

Hope the guy was arrested... I can see more of these kind of pranks happening in these high tension times.
