    I suppose our country has always had an uneasy relationship with France - centuries of conflict and all that. Personally, I've always liked 'em - a very cultured nation, I'd say, with their food, their wine, their art and their passion.

    I have no doubt that Hollande will adopt the same measures as
    Sarkozy as France is as skint as we are and he knows it.

    Expect the German gnome Merkel will soon tell him what he has to do next.

    In the enormity of government, there are several ways of achieving the same task, in this case balancing the books.

    There is an alternative to unabated austerity that stifles the economy through fear of unemployment and the squeezing of the finances of those that drive the economy - the average citizen.
