Poor mites. I can't imagine the terror they must have felt trapped in their pens as the fire engulfed them.
I suspect the 'punishment' for the nasty, little bastard who started the fire will be woefully inadequate. A slap on the wrist, a stay in a remand home and a new playstation, most probably.
(The latest figures from the BBC News - 60 dogs have died )
Don't know what to do with my sadness and anger about this. I've donated but it won't bring those dogs back. I hate that bastard and hope he dies a miserable fear filled and painful death but that won't bring the dogs back either or make it not have happened.
This has really upset me, but fantasising about doing violence to the little shit doesn't really help. Especially given that we don't even know if they got the right guy yet.
I've made a donation to the Manc Bible page. It's an awful thing to happen - really desperate stuff. Little bastard wants locking up for a long time for this - the wife 'heard' he did it because his family had been refused to adopt a dog from there. Of course, probably just tittle-tattle.

That's true, but people are very angry. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't end up in hiding for his own safety.
This is so tragic & very much disturbing for some sicko to do this. There needs to be a change in the law, so that people that are cruel to animals get longer harsher sentences.
I wholeheartedly agree. I've found a petition that was posted on here not long ago about the pathetic low sentences for animal cruelty. Anyway, such a sad thing to have happened but heartening to see the community banding together to help the rest of the dogs out.
The good thing to come out of this tragedy is the massive amount of money people have donated - £226,188.09 at the last count. I got my old dog from there 13 years ago, she's long since gone to Rainbow Bridge, but she was such a treasured pet.
43 dogs have already died, but wonder how many more might have to be put to sleep because of his actions have left these other dogs so traumatized they might never be able to be rehomed
I have just read that on Mail Online with tears streaming down my face. How anyone can do that to innocent animals is beyond me, what sort of person must you be to take pleasure in causing so much pain and suffering, I don't care if he is just 14 he knows right from wrong and he knows what would happen if he set fire to a rescue centre. I bloody well knew at 14 that setting fire to something will cause damage and risk lives. The person who did that is pure scum. The noise from the dogs but have been harrowing, those people who have rallied around and those two men that went in and rescued some are the complete opposite to this little shit of a firestarter.
I have donated (they need that more than I need to go out for dinner tonight when I have a fridge full of food).
I'm sorry, but I think it is fine to express initial anger at actions like this, especially when only on a forum. It is so patronising to be told it is not PC or whatever.
No, thanks. It's not the fact that I don't have the stomach for raw troll that bothers me, it's more that you're so transparent I fear you would taste of nothing, which would be far worse.
I really don't think bickering of this nature is appropriate on this particular thread. It looks now like over 60 animals are dead - burnt to death deliberately, arson by a 14 year old - and that's where the focus of this thread should remain.
I would add that I know this area of Manchester well - I was born there and lived 2 miles down the road until I was 23 but still visit often to see my mother. It's not the best of areas (it was in a TOWIE-style documentary last year on BBC3) and I've often taken the p of it and been a bit snobby about the people there but I take my hat off to how that community has responded to this tragedy. They turned up in their hundreds to help and two lads put their own lives at possible risk by climbing in and passing dogs over.
I imagine the little sh!t who did this is some cocky smartarse who thinks it's a great laugh - well, let's see how much he's laughing when he's locked up or, even worse, released back into the community of Harpurhey!
This is heartbreaking!! However a 14 yr old knows exactly what he doing! Don't kid yourself. He is a vile creature!! I don't like kids anyway but this one deserves hell!!

Yes, I bet they are all rallying to help the surviving dogs too. Must have been horrible to have to hear them all.I know someone who had to experience this-she won't ever forget it.
Kids don't realise reprecussions. Please don't do a right from wrong response.
Kids think being bad is cool. But in reality they end up being hated and bullied. Something they don't realise until its too late.
At the end of the day he is a kid with an undeveloped brain. He has time on his side to grow up and change. Hopefully.
I'm sorry but they do if they've been brought up properly! My son (13) and I sat reading the news on this story last night, both deeply shocked and upset.
It takes a twisted mind to commit arson, and I suspect culprit's age is irrelevant in this. I also agree with another poster who said he is likely already well known to the authorities. This isn't a simple case of a child 'not knowing right from wrong', it's a criminal act carried out by someone who is deeply disturbed.

Doesn't bear thinking about, makes me feel sick to the stomach.
Just donated. It's easier than I was expecting. I thought I'd have to mess around filling in debit card details etc. But you can do it by text, by sending MDOG57 followed by £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070.
I've also donated. The worst in human behaviour has brought out the very best in others, the Facebook group has been inundated with offers of help from members of the public. Offering to foster surviving dogs, offering bedding and food and blankets and crates etc.
The Manchester Evening News fund has just hit £100k when they were only targeting £5k. Lots of people won't have heard about this yet so I can see it growing a lot tommorow. It won't bring the poor dogs back, but hopefully they can make it into one of the the best dogs homes around for those that survived.
What's the fund for exactly? For rebuilding? That would surely be covered by insurance, which I would imagine would include liability cover for any vet's fees too. While there will be plenty of people who will voluntarily care for some of the animals without needing to be paid.
From some of the replies here is sounds like some huge humanitarian aid effort is underway.

I think it's known as "giving a shit about something other than yourself."
I don't know what to say about the stupid kid who did it, either he's a scumbag who won't give shit about he's done, or he'll never forget it. No winners either way really.

Those poor dogs.
I see the Just Giving page set up by Manchester Evening news has now raised 189K.
Unless the boy has special needs ,he should know actions have consequences.
Amen to that. There's nothing like an animal cruelty thread on DS for bringing out these stupid revenge porn fantasies.

What a load of rubbish. Of course kids know repercussions, you insult the majority of decent kids by saying otherwise.
Why would anyone set fire to a dogs home?

Poor,poor dogs.
you're right but you say but sadly the washy bleeding hearts types don't believe it.

Trying hard not to, but you can't help yourself. I feel so much for the local community, I just can't imagine their night.
