Is it worth hiding my IP address?

http://www.hide-my-ip-address.com/hideip/

Remember, all it takes is ONE SIMPLE LETTER to your Internet service provider, for someone to find out EXACTLY who you are.

Your Internet service provider will keep logs of your IP use for years, as will most websites.

Do you REALLY want EVIDENCE of your browsing hanging around for THAT LONG?

If not, then it's about time you became ANONYMOUS... with Hide My IP Address!
If you thought the Internet was anonymous, it’s time to think again. Every Web site you visit, every e-mail you send, every image you download – is ALL connected back to your unique IP address.

With this special number, ANYONE can send an official request for your private details straight to your Internet service provider. Hackers can launch an attack against your computer. And identity theft fraudsters can track your activities and build profiles of your Internet use.

Well, it all depends what you have to hide, you naughty person.

No ISP would reveal someone's identity in response to a simple request, it's against the Data Protection Act. The only time they'd reveal it would be because of a court order obtained by the police.

So let's look at the alternatives ...
a handful of por...err...pages you wish to hide, scattered among many million pages held by an ISP , or

The pages which you, for whatever reasons, wish to keep hidden, highlighted to and stored by a company of which you know nothing?

What a rip off, tor? Paying for a tor browser.... lol
Tor is slow as hell, and insecure anyways.

    What a fraud.

That's not a true statement. However the purchase of the said item would be pointless

Your ISP issued you with the IP address you use, so they already know EXACTLY who you are.

Not quite, the know who the bill payer is but not who was using the computer.

You can get the same result also from a VPN or any proxy list.

All users providing Tor end-points are self selected, so while it may be anonymous, it certainly isn't secure. I'd rather my ISP recorded my traffic than some random honeypot in Taiwan...
If you're not doing something you shouldn't in a way that could get you caught, there's no need to conceal your IP address.

    True.

I would not recommend using the Tor network, as many servers on there track your usernames and passwords.

In short, the answer is certainly no, it is not 'worth' it. Of course people who want to pursue you for some reason will be able to tell if for example you use a forum or newsgroup with multiple names or join things pretending to be someone else.

In general, only people who are up to mischief need do it (and it is still possible to track them but keep that under yr hat) or people who are a bit paranoid. If the mad web axeman ripper is out to get you he will get you because you are daft and tell him you are a pretty young woman who wants some fun and s*x and tell him your home address and you live alone and will agree to meet him etc etc.

However, if you like to play around at techy stuff, you might think it is definitely a thing you would like to try out for fun, for self education, in case you ever need to do it and of course to help to answer your own question. For those reasons it is definitely something you should do and it's 'worth' it..

The reasons I put 'worth' in quotes is that the question you ask ought really to be 'do I need to hide the ISP address' and the answer is you don't.

I'm a bit confused, are you recommending the product, wanting advice on it or a discussion on it? When I read your post I thought you would have 1 post to your name, and after a few hours be deleted, but you have over 3000.

What you can do is configure an anonymous proxy server. It will appear to your ISP that you are connected to the anonymous server and then all your surfing will go thru that server. Some servers don't even know that you're connecting to them if you do it right as your IP won't be logged. Don't pick one in the EC or USA as they share info or any crown territories.
Here is a good proxy site: http://www.samair.ru/proxy/
Here you can check who the proxy is: http://www.stilllistener.com/checkpoint1/
Here you can check how anonymous you are: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
