Now here's an unlucky house...

Apparently this house has been on sale for years. Beautiful historic house, six bedrooms, mature gardens etc, only £235,000. Of course, Bootle is not prime territory but still. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-24692214.html

It is only when you get to photograph number 28 that you see the bail hostel at the bottom of the garden...

Is that really what it is? If that's the case that really is a shame, house looks amazing.

I'm surprised a liberal hasn't bought it as they always say they would happily live next door to anyone.

Apparently yes. I know someone who went for a viewing, and got the impression that they had done an aaaaaaaaaaawful lot of viewings over the years...

I am more shocked at the energy rating. If the fact there is a bail hostel at the bottom of the garden is the reason it isn't selling (and think we're all fairly sure on that) I think its a shame I mean the residents of the hostel are not going to be having late night parties and far as I know they have supervision on site and curfews so in some ways this house might be more secure.

They just need to put up a fence and explain the bail hostel is merely a very low-budget hotel...

I love Bootle. They should give up trying to sell it and rent it as a holiday let.

The idea of having a bail hostel at the bottom of the garden doesn't bother me other than the impact on resale value. It'd probably make the house the least likely to experience trouble in that area. I'd want to know what was on the other side of the windows though purely from a privacy issue. It's possible that as it's a bail hostel they may agree to block them up.

Frankly I'd be more worried that it was listed since that can be an expensive pain in the bum. As has been noted the energy rating is poor (possibly due to the conservation status).

I wouldn't mind living there based on that, my issue would be it looks like crumbly castles inside some of the rooms. Just reminds me of one of my ex's parents houses, which was all big and old and creaky.

Liberals wouldn't mind living there, liberals are also young and wouldn't want to live in a place of such 'character' I'd imagine.

Was Bootle really rough at one time?

I've heard that my nan used to tell people to "go to Bootle" in a similar way to someone saying "get lost" or "go for a long walk on a short pier". She was from Wallasey on the other side of the river and lived there 'til the 70's.

I don't understand this---liberals are also young--. I know several people who have told me they vote liberal and they're absolutely ancient. Anyhow, we would never move from London to Bootle no matter how cheap a house was and it's got open fires. I hate open fires.

I was being a bit tongue in cheek I suppose but if I had to say there was a general rule liberals do seem to be conventionally younger.

Besides which, bit of a difference between those who 'vote liberal' and those who 'are liberal'. The Liberal Democrats aren't very liberal these days.

I spoke to someone who had just been to look at it. They said it is a bit of a talking point in Bootle, that it has been on sale for so long.

I'd just put a fence up or request they remove the windows. Grow some trees or something? Surely there is something that can be done. To be fair, I doubt I would live there. I would be scared for my car :( aw.

Building with the red door is the gated window one.

That is not a bail hostel.

THAT is a bail hostel and it's down the road from the property.

If you scroll to the map, the gated property in OPs picture is at the roundabout, attached to the National Tyres building.

    Myth: busted.

Seriously - how can you "hate" open fires? They are lovely on a cold winter's night!

 Oh well, I'm sorry if I got something wrong. I assume that the person who told me about it had misunderstood what they were told. I can't work out from your link how close the bail hostel is. Still, if anyone wants a bargain house, and doesn't mind it being on a big crossroads and near to a bail hostel housing sex offenders, this is the one.
