Have to Keep Rebooting Router

I have a fairly old Netgear router which provides wifi for IPad and Internet to PC upstairs via power plugs.
Rebooting (power off/on) has now become at least a twice daily affair. The symptoms are that the wifi stays live but no Internet connection on Ipad and the PC shows connected but again no Internet.
This will almost always happen when the PC is first powered on and other times it will just happen out of the blue.
I suspect this must be a router problem but why, it worked fine for a couple of years and these problems have slowly developed over the last year.
Or could it possibly be a fault from my Internet provide (talktalk down bt line).
Any advice would be welcome, I really do not want to go out and buy another router if this is not the problem. If I do need a new route any advice on something basic and cheap.

Borrow or buy another router and see if that cures your problem.
