I just had a conventional bloke's short haircut. No floppy mullet, perm, spikey-hair, heavy metal shoulder-length, mohican or skinhead for me-though plenty others had each of these in '85.
My mum had a hairstyle very much like in this picture: http://s3-ec.buzzfed.com/static/enhanced/web03/2012/4/17/15/anigif_enhanced-buzz-7672-1334691367-8.gif and retained that look until around 1991. Whenever I listen to any songs from 1985 to the early 1990s, I always end up with an image in my head of when my mum had the hairstyle she did in 1985! :D

Probably the most under-rated song of all time.

I have so many favorite songs from 1985. The Now Music 1985 collections are pretty good to find many of the tracks mentioned in this thread.

Off the top of my head, some of my 1985 favorite songs would be:

Kate Bush-Running Up That Hill and Cloudbusting (actually the whole Hounds of Love album)
Eurythmics-There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart)
Katrina and The Waves-Walking On Sunshine
    Aretha Franklin-Freeway of Love
Clarence Clemons & Jackson Browne-You're A Friend of Mine
    Kirsty MacColl-A New England
    Strawberry Switchblade-Since Yesterday
    Prince-Raspberry Beret
    Pet Shop Boys-West End Girls
Alison Moyet-That Ole Devil Called Love
    Big Audio Dynamite-Medicine Show
    Fine Young Cannibals-Johnny Come Home

    and many more.

Ah , 1985, the year I started listening to music properly. I was 13 and I was mad about madonna what a year it wS for her! Madonna mania or what? Fantastic stuff. Loved being part of that era of hers. Still worship the ground she walks on today lol

But the big surprise for me that year was jennifer rush. I hated the power of love for the first few weeks and then I remember suddenly somehow loving it. So much so I got her album thinking I wouldn't like it. How wrong was I!? One of my favourite albums ever and 13 albums or so later I'm still a huge jennifer fan. Yes believe it or not she's still out there. Love her voice

One thing I am is loyal

Couldnt stand eurythmics...I walk into an empty roooo-oooo--oooom and suddenly my heart goes boo=oooo=ooooo-oooom there must be an angel...
But, "There Must Be An Angel" had some nice harmonica played by Stevie Wonder on it. Also, his song "Overjoyed" from that year's "In Square Circle" was a pretty good single, too.

Was Cherish/Kool and the Gang 85?

Yes, Kool and the Gang's "Cherish" was released as a single in 1985.

Has anyone mentioned The Power Station's "Some Like It Hot"? Also, whatever you thought of it at the time, there was David Bowie and Mick Jagger's cover of "Dancing In The Street".

I consider myself a bit of a music buff but I really haven't a clue as to what was released as a single in 1985. But have mercy, I was 7/8 at the time. :D

I quite like 'Roseanna' by Toto. Is that 1985?

    Edit :- No, that's 1982.

OK then - Prince: Raspberry Beret. :)

Brilliant year for music, most of my faves have already been mentioned, PSB's first chart outing and Madonna scoring her very first number one single were a couple of musical highlights for me also.
