I am really sad, I still treasure her brilliant performance as Lucia in the original and best version of Mapp and Lucia.

    R.I.P. Geraldine.

Great actress. Had a real sparkle. Loved 'Mulberry' and her Miss Farnaby in particular. RIP to a very talented woman. (Will watch an episode later)

    RIP :(

I'm approaching that age where all the grown up people on TV when I was a child seem to be passing away.

I see what you did there 😄😄

RIP to a very talented actress. The first thing I remember her in was The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.

She should have been made a Dame. Very underrated actress. She didn't really get the roles she deserved. She was brilliant in Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit. I've just read in her bio that she declined a Damehood in 2002 and an OBE in 1986. Was always wondering why she was never a Dame. Now I know.

That's what I remember her from as well. I remember seeing her in Hamlet at St George's Hall in Liverpool in 1992 with Alan Rickman - it was a few years after she'd been in RHPOT with him. The pair had appeared in quite a few things - they were both in the Barchester Chronicles together (of which I had the whole series on video). Brilliant actress.

She was a leading lady in the West End at 19 and worked with everyone from Dirk Bogarde to Laurence Olivier and Kenneth Williams. She was wonderful as the religious zealot mother in Oranges are Not the Only Fruit (for which she won a BAFTA) and brought an endearing mischievous twinkle to Miss Marple. RIP.

Fair enough to turn down an honour if you don't believe in them

Shame that she had so little TV & Film success until she was in her mid to late forties, probably why I didn't realise she was 82. I loved The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie as a child.
