Vile old bigot. I'm sure his family are sad though.

Politics is a dirty game, where you're stabbed in the front at the same time you're stabbed in the back.

    RIP :(

    Wonder who's next?

Someone will definitely be next ;-)

Can't say I feel anything for the loud-mouthed one.

I remember my mum telling me years ago that he had bought his 'collar' in the post! Probably not true but as catholics, we didn't have many good words for him.

My favourite anagram of Rev Ian Paisley - Vile IRA Pansy.

Dave Allen invented that. Ted Heath's was - The Death.

Ummm...isn't an anagram supposed to use all the same letters...?

My Twitter is full of people making all these sanctimonious posts about not agreeing with Paisley but having to respect him cause he's dead. Such a nauseating fallacy.

I think it does if you spell Pansy with an 'e'. For the purpose of getting a laugh (if Dave Allen did come up with it), it's close enough.

It's not often you are right.

But you are wrong again. ^_^

I'm sure plenty of Protestants (certainly a lot who are friends) would like nothing to do with his anti-Irish, anti-Catholic and anti-LGBT bigotry.

As I said in politics forum he will not go down favourably in Irish history - the arch anti-Irish man of the last 60 odd years ... Some of the reactions I have already heard around here confirm the hatred for what he stood for.

.................. He was a rabble-rousing demagogue of a sort that politics can really do without.

Isn't that a quote from "Jesus Christ Superstar" ?
I'll be disappointed if he didn't rage about the dying of the light.

I doubt whether he went gently.

I wonder if it'll be the same when Adams and McGuinness goes? There'll probably be a national day of mourning when those two go.

Of course it won't be the same - there won't be a day of mourning but their deaths will be judged as a loss to Ireland ... North and South.

There is nothing to get over. The country is not called Ulster.

Yes but as long as the people were not Catholics.

in all fairness you have to laugh at the young hipster unionists in n.ireland in their 20's, their fathers and grandfathers would have loved auld ian, just look at the crowd here listening to him.
    http://youtu.be/8zSWlAHD29M?t=17s

They just dislike him because they are very pro homosexuality and what not and they realise that big ian wasn't.

yes i am wrong, it is actually 47% that's in the Irish Republic.

I am talking about the land, not the counties, in terms of counties it is 33%. Donegal is a massive county and Monaghan and Cavan make up the rest of the Irish Republic areas of Ulster

I'm not a religious person so his Presbyterian views bypassed me. I am a Unionist though and was was a very fine champion of the Unionist cause.

Yep, N.ireland is even smaller then an Irish Province - the people of Monaghan, Donegal and Cavan are extremely lucky they were not part of Paisleys Orange state ... Simply a state of hatred.
