I'd suggest the reason seaside fish & chips tends to be yummier is because there's lots of competition thereabouts, not just from other chippies but from numerous other takeaway establishments.
Who likes the lovely taste of deep fried fish and chips from the local chipshop takeaway with plenty of batter. It's my favourite dinner, more so than anything else. What do others think?

Gt Yarmouth, There are 5or 6 market stall sellers of Chips ,they are the best Chips ever. None sell Fish, they are not allowed to be in competition with the F& C shops in the town due to the inequality of rent and rates each pays.
As they only sell Chips they are very good, I only wish my local Chippy would take a lesson on how to prepare and cook Them.
It's a job to find in this coastal area Decent Fish and Chips under a Fiver. I have said this many times before, The Railway Tavern in Dereham Norfolk. A Pub with a Fish Shop inside, Good F&C an 5 Pints for a Tenner.
We got them for tea yesterday... it is definitely a 2-3 times a year treat, but my they were lovely. Large cod, small chips and an extra cod for the cats (or they just sit on my chair and hook the fish off my plate with their claws.
Most important question is
a) salt & vinegar
b) tomato ketchup
c) mayo
d) nothing
e) something disgusting, like brown sauce.
Salt and vinegar, mushy peas, slice of buttered white bread, lemon wedge. It's traditional for a reason...because it's the best.

My Kebab Shop does fish and chips and they are excellent. Also the oil for chips with your Kebab has that extra fish flavour as a bonus. One day I'll ask them to make up a mixed Donner and get them to seal it, chuck it in the deep fryer and ... yummy.
Fish and chips - the only time I like to eat fish is when it's served this way. But at £8.50 for a standard supper it's a rare treat.
£8.50! . About a fiver most places near me. Even my local Wetherspoons does Fish and Chips for £6.09 on a Friday and that comes with a pint of Kronenbourg.:p
I prefer it when they are cooked in beef dripping though many places no longer do this, almost boasting they are cooked in oil.

£5 for 6 pieces of frozen cod at my local fish mongers., I bought two packs and I deep fried them ready to have some for work packed lunch.
To make my batter, Plain flour, water, bit of salt n pepper, ginger and garlic powder.
