So, can anyone clarify for me what the house connection is between Tyrell and Martell? (Ie: What's the relationship between Oberion and Margaery?)

Also, am I right in thinking the incident Oberion as talking about (the death of his sister and family) is connected to the incident that lead to Robert becoming King?

The woman that Raegar (sp?) loved was Ned's sister, who was bethrothed to Robert?

The mad king's son was married to his sister. Tywin Lanester ordered the whole family slaughtered.

The Tyrells rule The Reach, the Martells rule Dorne.

    So neighbouring Kingdoms.

Yeah the Sister killing incident happened during Roberts Rebellion, it's been mentioned before in the show about the Targaryen children being killed.

After all the hype, some one like me that has never watched GOT decided to watch the first episode S1 E1. What a load of trash. Foul sexual language, women running around naked, no real story, graphic displays of men getting their heads chopped off. If this is entertainment I feel sorry for all you viewers who watch it. I will not be wasting any more time on this GOT.

Great opening episode. It didn't feel like an hour but it was great though.

I already like Oberyn a lot and can't wait to see more of him and Ellaria as well. His scenes with Tyrion were delightful as well.

Some great moments Jaime had with Tywin, Cersei, Joffrey and Brienne in this episode too. Joffrey's still his usual self then.

Sansa - meh, I do feel bad for her at times and she did have some moments here as well but she can be frustrating to watch sometimes as a character.

Arya and the Hound are brilliant but the former is certainly becoming a lot colder as well. Hard not to see that.

Daenerys's dragons are continuing to be a handful then and I like the new Daario as well.

More Margaery and Olenna please. They're always great to watch as characters.

Jon was great in this episode but I do sort of him and Ygritte interacting with each other now.

Definitely a set up episode but a great one, 8/10
    agree with all your comments

maybe it didnt seem like a hour because it didnt have adverts (well as far as I remember it didnt) :D

Arya really shocked me. Her actions thus far struck me as out of fear or in defence. This she wanted to do and enjoyed!

Interesting that Margaery spoke against Joffrey and even more interesting that Olena warned her against it even with no one else around. Looks like time in Kings Landing has taught them both lessons.

I don't think the statue represents anything over than the slaughter of the Stark's, Robb in particular.

So of your 4 complaints, 3 of them are that you are a prude, and any minor offense to your delicate sensibilities taints everything else around it. This obsession with things that really shouldn't phase an adult calls into question your judgement on other issues. Your one other specific complaint is that you don't have the attention span to wait and try to understand the story.

An opening episode has a lot of work to do establishing the world and the players in the story. This isn't some sitcom where they're going to give you a completely self contained story every episode. The story arcs unfold over the season and beyond, involving the characters and situations that the early episodes establish.

Didn't exactly come from nowhere, though. She's been repeating the mantra of people she wants to kill for quite some time, and this guy she killed was one of the first on her list.

Liking the metaphor with the Stark swords - the episode beginning with Ned's famous, absurdly large sword (oi oi) being melted and split, and ending with Arya and her very small sword.

6.6 million people watched GOT last night. It's HBO's highest ratings since the final episode of The Sopranos.

It wasn't that she killed Polliver slowly and with enjoyment.

It was that she killed both of her victims that episode slowly and with enjoyment.

While you can argue that taking enjoyment from killing someone like Polliver for a reason is somewhat justified, she's just done the exact same thing to the previous guy who she didn't know at all - first disable him, then very slowly run him through while clearly enjoying it.

I've no issue with people who dislike gore, violence, bad language or sex scenes. To each their own, I say. What I don't get is the need to run down the people who enjoy a show that you do not.

You've no need to feel sorry for any of us. We're all too busy enjoying a magnificently acted and written TV show for there to be anything for you to pity us for. ;)

    Great to have GoT back!

    Some great scenes as usual.
Very sad seeing Ice being reforged into two new swords.

The scene with Joff sneering at uncle Jaime was entertaining. Jaime needs to give him a talking to, like Tywin did last season :)

Arya getting Needle back is awesome, and I did chuckle when she got her pony.

Thronecast was better this year, apart from the lady who kept calling Dany "Khaleesi". I know it's her title and Jorah is always calling her that but her name is Dany.

PS Can we not feed the trolls this year pleae? every year they crawl out from under their bridges to hook dozens of unsuspecting folk with barbed comeents on GoT being porn filled with too much sex, violence and swearing. Maybe this year if they aren't fed they'll crawl back under their bridges to watch corrie...

I'm another late-comer to GoT, having caught the first episode of season one during the re-runs over the past year and immediately becoming hooked! This will be the first season I'll get to watch 'as it happens' so really looking forward to it and all the twists and turns it will no doubt bring :D

Managed to get up to watch the first episode, I couldn't believe how quickly it went! I really enjoyed it and can't wait for next week already. Arya's really turning into a little firecracker, I hope she and the Hound stay together for a little while longer, although I also hope she manages to reunite with Gendry now he's escaped Dragonstone.

I do have a bit of a claim to fame with the show - the actor who plays the young man who was in the brothel getting undressed by Oberyn is an old uni friend of mine, who I was very lucky to get to share a stage with a few times (although he did have a lot more clothes on then, and he's a much better actor than I am!). I'm so proud to see him in something so huge but at the same time it does make for awkward viewing seeing someone you know naked on tv!

Funny, since seasons 1 & 3 ended with events that had some irate viewers swearing off the show, claiming that they'd ruined it and the ratings would never recover.

Just caught up with the new episode. Don't have Sky any more so, ahem, had to acquire the episode by other means.

Great opening episode. Felt like it took its time enough to introduce some new characters but still moved at a pace which made the hour fly by.

Loved the scenes with Clegane and Arya. Dany's dragons are growing very fast - they're going to get very difficult to control before long.

I hadn't thought of that meaning behind 'Two Swords', but I like it.

Arya strikes me as someone very broken going to a dark place. As far as she now knows everyone in her family is dead apart from Sansa. It seems she has nothing to lose.

Not really imo. Olenna has always been whip smart and Margaery obviously takes after her. Olenna Tyrell is a savvy woman, used to playing the game and shouldn't be messed with imo.

Judging by how dead Facebook is tonight, I think everyone is watching it. I 'taped' the 2am one and watched it earlier.

So pleased it's back. That was brilliant from beginning to end, the hour flew by. Loved, well all of it really. Was taken aback by Ayra's brutality, looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

Nope, actually the title was referring to the scene with Oberyn and the procurer.
