We are currently with sky paying £64 a month. My question is if we get Freeview instead would we have to change the phone line because we have sky but we like it, we don't want to go back to BT. It is just the TV we want to give up. I would be grateful for your advice.

You don't need Freeview - just cancel your Sky subscription and you'll be left with all the freeview channels bar Dave, Yesterday, TMF, 4Music, Virgin 1, Sky Three*, Five USA*, Fiver* and Five*. (Try remove your Sky viewing card to see the channels you're left with)

But to answer your original question, no you can keep your current phone line as Freeview doesn't need one.

    * these will still work with once your ditch you Sky sub as long as you leave your card in your box.

If you have Sky Talk then that may well end if you cancel your Sky TV subscription. see the T&C on the Sky website

If you do not pay Sky for your phone service then it won't make one bit of difference who you get your telly from.

Freeview does not have any connection to a phone line. It is purely a television system. It does require the television to be connected to a traditional aerial. The television can also be connected to a satellite dish or a cable television system if you wish but it doesn't need to be.

If you've got a modern television connected to an aerial then it can probably receive Freeview already. Older televisions need a Freeview box. In either case there's no subscription or registration required.

There's also Freesat, which is a subscription-free television system that works with a satellite dish. Except for a very small number of very modern televisions, that needs a special receiver box though.

The OP isn't exactly clear but my interpretation is that ameredith has Sky TV plus Sky Talk phone package. Especially as (s)he mentions not wanting to go back to BT.

Fairly obviously if anyone has their phone service provided from anybody other than Sky then it is totally irrelevant what TV service they have. However Sky Talk is tied into having a Sky TV subscription. As Sky's T&Cs make clear if you cancel the TV subscription then the phone service ceases with it.

Why are you paying £64 a month...

Reduce to one pack if you feel you can reduce to the number of channels on Freeview ... if you really want to keep Sky Talk.
