An absolute legend, true superstar of the game, and a damn fine player.

Scored the most mind-bogglingly impossible goal i've ever seen in my life.

With a wheel barrow load of cash no doubt.
In terms of his free kicks he was certainly a one kick wonder.
    Great full back though.

Fantastic player, although I thought he'd retired ages ago

To be fair, he's only 39.

Cracking player though. One of my favourites growing up.

Great player, to be honest i thought he retired a couple of years ago, however what a career 4 Spanish League titles, 3 Champions Leagues, 2 Copa America's and 1 World Cup win from 2 finals as well as a host of other medals, not many players can match that. Although i must admit he was a one hit wonder when it came to free kicks despite it being probably the best free kick i have ever seen.

Just think how many more goals his teams might have scored if he had not kept claiming the right to blast long free kicks high, wide and mighty off the back of that one spectacular success.

Cafu was far superior defender than he was.
So was for the matter Aldair.

Reminds me of Cristiano Ranaldo and his rigmarole when he steps up for a free kick. Yeah, he's scored but 95% of the time it's a waste of a free kick.

He just tw*tted most of his free-kicks.

Most went over the bar, yet everyone only focused on the ones he did score, making it out like he had a skillful placement and 100% success rate.

I never rated him, I agree with Batdude that Cafu was far superior.

Great career but quite impressively overated id say.

...another player to suffer racial abuse by having bananas thrown at him :(...somebody should tell them russians to stop it

That was some run-up. The French wall was closer to the ball than he was. Also, some pretty stellar names on the pitch there. Has there been a huge decline in Brazilian football, or is it just me?

What happened to him being Player/Manager at Anzhi then?

I prefer his corner flag goal over the free kick against France. Probably my favourite goal of all time

Here is a selection of Roberto Carlos wondergoals. Corner Flag goal is 45 seconds in.

People claiming him to be overrated or inferior defensively couldn't be more wrong. He was a brilliant defender.
