Wild
Enjoyed this quite a bit, it had an interesting story & visually it was very easy on the eye.
I will say that I wasn't able to connect with the central character as much as I did in the similarly themed 'Into The Wild' & 'Tracks' but this wasn't due to Reese Witherspoon not being up to scratch. Her performance was actually really good (and at times very raw indeed) however I just had less empathy with her character's motivations compared with what I'd experienced in the other two films.
I therefore ended up feeling like an observer rather than a companion consequently I didn't get quite as much out of this film, emotionally speaking, as I'd wanted to.
That said, this still represented a very positive viewing experience so overall it did enough to get an 8/10 from me...

And Reese's Legs, are very easy on the eye.;)
7/10
I thought that the author, Cheryl Strayd, personally sent her book to Reese because she had her in mind to play her?

By the way, the film was amazing. I went to the premiere at the Toronto Film Festival back in September, and then I saw the film twice in one week when it was officially released here in December. Best film of the year for me.
Having seen the film i really liked it. It uses non-linear film-making to tell the story of Cheryl Strayed and her walk on the PCT but it was never confusing. I was enthralled by her and it was nice to see an actress who actually looks like the person she's portraying.
The film was very moving and you could understand what she was trying to achieve. Definetely not a typical Reece Witherspoon film but she was fantastic in this, one of her best roles in years. Completely believable and fully deserves her Best Actress nomination. Hope she takes more risks like this.
Laura Dern plays her mum and having seen the film it's the least amount of screentime i've seen of anyone who's been nominated for Best Supporting Actress. She's not in the film that much but she is the heart and soul of the film so i can understand why she's been nominated. Though i do sort of feel Rene Russo was robbed but that's another matter entirely.
I've not seen Dallas Buyers Club so i can't compare but it's a good film, beautifully shot and well worth a watch. If you want to see an edge to Witherspoon, this is the film.
If you want to see more of Reece you can also catch her in Inherent Vice which was released on Friday.
