the guardian of the underworld would be?

Not Heras by any chance.?

    Hades was the ruler of the underworld and Cerberus (three headed dog) was the guardian. Greek I think.

    The ferryman was in Roman myth too (when you died you got a coin put in your mouth to pay). I'm not sure he was named though.

    The Norse Goddess of the Underworld was Hel and Garmr is the watchdog.
