A real shock. I knew she has been ill but not so near to death. Diedrie was a solid character from the glory days of the 1970s and 1980s.

Hearing her mutter the classic 'oh Tracey luv' line never failed to make me smile ;-)

    RIP Anne.

I couldn't believe this when seeing a thread title in the Showbiz forum. Hell! I thought she'd be around to continue her acting career until she was nearly 80.

That was Blanche - who was the best thing about Coronation Street in the last 20 years.

    She's finally free!

I never watched more than the odd episode when I had no choice growing up so had no idea she was still in it.

    RIP

She delivered the best ever line in Corrie

    "Kens got gout"

I even had it as my SMS ringtone for a while.

Sad news, I had no idea she was ill.

It's all Greek to me, I've never seen an episode of Coronation Street but I knew who Deride Barlow was. Actually that isn't quite true as I can speak Greek, but you get the gist.

    Very sad news.

What was the cause of her death?

Short illness but no reason reported.

Haven't watched Corrie for more than 20 years but remember her, only 60 as well.

All that is known is she had non hodgkinson lymphmoma over 20 years ago and has suffered severe depression since.

My favourite line was when she was talking to Norris about Tracy taking a taxi cab job and working nights. Norris said it's a dangerous place out there and there's lots of road rage. Deirdre then said I know she's got such a temper.

I thought she was older than that because I thought she was in Corrie as an adult from the early 60s.......but obviously not

She must have been a latecomer.......

I remember her as Dierdre Langton, married to Ray

A bit of a shocker. I haven't watched Corrie for a few years now, but the character of Deirdre was one of the show's greatest icons. Particularly, because of that memorable storyline involving her affair with Mike Baldwin which Anne played brilliantly. RIP Anne.
