Last Night on Radio Borders seen the end of the Sunday Getherin' a Scottish/Traditional/local artist Music show that was penciled to lasted 6 weeks, in 2003 lasted for 7 and a half years till Sunday 24th April 2011.

Bauer Scotland are now networking Sunday Evenings from 7pm now all the way through to 6am on Monday Morning.

Karin Ingram, host of the Sunday Getherin' finished off with a lump in your throat song from local artist Craig Jeffrey and the Simple Touch.

Although the music has a niche market, the facebook group page and general disgust from people around the Borders was apparent. Community Radio's gain though. Karin Ingram broke the news on her Facebook page after her show that she was going to be back as normal this Sunday 8-10pm on TD1 Radio www.td1radio.com which from a Community Radio point of view, is only positive.

Up shot is though on Bauer, the FM stations will have 8 hours of local programming only on Sunday now. as 4pm is the chart show. 7-10pm from this Sunday is "In Demand uncut" with Jim Gellatly with 'All the freshest new tunes around Scotland'

It's actually done well to last as it has on Radio Borders. While it's unfortunate that the Getherin' has now been lost to a mainstream audience, it has to be remembered that Bauer are in the business of making money and if they think that putting out a networked programme at 7pm on Sundays will pull in more listeners (and therefore make more revenue) than the previous local shows, then that is exactly what they will do.

That's not to say I agree with the networking - indeed, I am very fearful for Radio Borders' future if the networking is extended any further - but sadly that is the way the radio industry works these days. Although, having said that, one benefit of the networking has been the reintroduction of live overnights on the FM stations.

I take it youth show Wired also finished on Sunday too? This gave young people an outlet to present and have their views aired.

Wired is being moved apparently to 3pm's on Sunday before the chart show. Which at the moment is a problem as RB are covering the 7s competitions, and are doing the chart themselves rather than going to Rich and Kat at 4pm.

Wired is recorded on Thursday Nights these days, not live anymore.

As Wired features people I know and of similar age to me, I have to say find it at times a bit 'childish', A chap i know who used to do Wired said it's 99% scripted, nothing like it used to be.It's not quite like the Class 2001 days when it all started with Bobby Taylor etc!

I'm not familiar with the show, but I really don't like it when radio stations do away with local programming, given the premise of "local radio". I had a wonderful time, with some really nice people at Radio Borders. In retrospect, was SRH all that bad?

Same story with Northsound 1. A great show for local bands has been axed to make way for more networking. Why don't they don't go the whole hog and do "a Globa"l on all the Scottish stations?

Not good! But I notice they are doing a new network show.
    http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/Press-Office/News/Bauer-Media-Scotland-Increase-Commitment-to-New-Music/
Bauer Media Scotland today set out plans for further investment in its massively successful In:Demand portfolio with the addition of In:Demand Uncut, a new platform to showcase the best emerging talent and new releases.
Launching on 1st May, In:Demand Uncut will be fronted by the voice of new music in Scotland, Jim Gellatly. The show, to be broadcast from 7pm-10pm on Sundays, will be an entry point for credible new music and showcase the best up and coming bands and artists from Indie, Hip Hop and Rock music genres. It will be broadcast across Bauer Media's Clyde 1, Forth 1, Tay FM, Westsound, Radio Borders and Northsound 1.
Jim's show will contain new up and coming acts, live performances, interviews and reviews and will also reflect on the influences and the journey of music over the past years, referencing the present to the past.
In:Demand Scotland, fronted by Romeo, will bring the biggest bands and artists to audiences across the country. In:Demand Scotland will continue to be broadcast from 7pm-10pm weeknights across the network (8pm-10pm on Clyde 1) with its focus being the first place to hear new mainstream pop music.
Also seems the way BBC local radio is going with loss of specialist shows, hope they also keep "Introducing" going on local stations. There is a chance for new artists to get material on Amazing or the internet, but it does not have the same impact as a local FM station.
edit notice not the best name for a show as D and : turn into smiley faces on the forum!

Interesting that they describe the music Jim will be playing on his show as " entry point for credible new music" sort of suggesting that the stuff on the normal playlist is tripe!

BTW, despite my gripe against more networking it is good to hear Jim back on Northsound.:)

It's not quite like the Class 2001 days when it all started with Bobby Taylor etc!

The Monday night show was going for 10 years before that! Class '91 was the original incarnation of the programme, on a Monday from 6 until 7. True local radio.

You say community radio's gain? Where would this be? As the Radio Borders region is pretty large. So a community station in say Berwick or Hexham just wouldn't be the same, just online only and not the FM coverage!

I seem to remember it was Kevin Young and his 'posse' that presented Class '91.

This is making me feel old!

now it may have escaped your notice but "parochial" is what LOCAL radio should be.

Instead we have been landed with a networked service which is run solely to feed profits to the borg parent company  Give us more "parochial" radio, we will then have a better more diverse service as a result . What fits in London / Glasgow / Edinburgh does not necessarily fit in Duns or TD1

I'm with Steven Oliver on this one 100%. I was always baffled that local shows remained on a Sunday night, when the audience figures must be low. Each show is at least being replaced by a show which will promote new music. I'm glad Jim is getting that outlet, it'll be good for new music in Scotland.

The FM Community Radio Licences have been re-opened again, For Scotland it's later on in the year. Which in the area TD1 Radio plans to apply for. Borders has only one other community radio in 'Brick FM' that plays loop recordings or relays of other radio stations, quite how they got a FM license is beyond me.

    You forgot to mention:

    3. Narrowly restricted in scope or outlook; provincial: parochial attitudes.

Which I would say was the context of the use of the word.
