An HPI check will tell you exactly when it was Cat D'd by the insurance company.
If it was fairly recently, then on a car of that age and mileage it wouldn't take much of an accident for the insurance company to class it as such so the car could be perfectly ok.
I would be more worried if the damage was done some time ago.
It was actually done when the car was just under 3 months old so it must have been a pretty bad accident. That's what I was concerned about, if the cat d status was more recent then I may have just let it go after having an aa check.

Apologies if anyone else has mentioned this in the thread but a car that has done 1600 miles a year for 10 years will be knackered. I'd expect to find binding brakes, rotted out exhaust, knackered battery, emulsified oil, etc.

I do but the car I really wanted was £4k which I would have had to take out a loan for but I'm going for one thats £2,100 now.
