Just wondering what you guys think? I know X-Tina has been labelled this but I disagree! Personally for vocal talent alone I would say Kelly Clarkson is by far the most deserving of the title.
Let me know who you guys are feeling

I would say across the generations it has been...
Whitney Houston -> Mariah Carey -> Christina Aguilera -> Adele.
Of course, Christina is questionable. She lost most of her relevance back in 2006, and Adele wasn't the popular pinnacle she is now until 2011, so... there's a bit of a gap. Mariah was really popular back in 2005, but she wasn't the singer she used to be at that point. I'd say even Adele is questionable, everyone thinks she's an amazing singer but no one speaks of her in the way they did Whitney and Mariah, who were definitely voices of a generation. Maybe there is no longer a voice of the generation...
I think had things not gone so tragically wrong for Amy Winehouse it would have been her.
Christina sadly appears to have been a flash in the pan. For whatever reason her success hasn't lasted and I don't think she leaves a legacy. So for that I'm not sure we can call her voice of a generation.
Adele might be. Her success is like nothing we have seen before but again she needs to sustain it. On the plus side all Adele now needs is a Tony and she joins and elite group of celebs.
I have heard this a few times! She has a great voice but I am not convinced she is as epic as she could be, I don't think she has scratched the surface of what she is capable of. Although on 4 she sounded incredible, particularly on 1+1. I would say she could be entertainer of the generation though, easily.
Oh Whitney at her peak was way above Mariah.
I don't think anyone could match Whitney on a good day to be honest. I think the Oscars 1999 where they both sang When You Believe showed Mariah was out of her depth.

I'm starting to like Beyoncé but she is a poor man's Tina Turner.
I think part of Beyoncé's problem is that she has no story. If a movie on her life was made it would be boring. She is just too perfect and clean. Icons and legends are never that!
Indeed, her voice was very robust. Like Winehouse its a shame she couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel as I am sure she would and could have remained relevant and successful had she got a grip. Those belts of her....dear god!
The industry has proclaimed her the voice of the generation, she's been awarded for her vocals many times, including her inclusion in the Time 100 list, her being the ONLY singer of her generation on the Rolling Stones 100 best vocalists of all time list, her receiving special awards at the People's Choice Awards and at the ALMA's and many more. People continually try to downgrade her reputation, but she's claimed her title of 'The Voice of this generation' since her James Brown tribute in 2007.
Rolling Stone also listed Lady Gaga as the Queen of Pop.
It doesn't mean its true.
What is Christina's lasting legacy on the music industry? that is the decider of whether or not she is the voice of a generation.
At this moment I cannot see what her contribution to music has been.
I love Christina but she suffers from overhype. The James Brown tribute is however one of the best performances I have ever seen, its a masterclass.
As far as overhype goes, I'd say the opposite. She's often very underestimated.
While I do not question her natural gift I do question her capacity now as a vocalist. My problem with her is she sings with a horrible technique, I cannot listen to her for so long as my throat starts to pain with sympathy, hollering out the notes can be a bit much after consecutive listens. I also wish she had pushed Lotus harder, she seems to have given up on the project. Don't get me started on that horrific Pitbull song either lol
The only current-ish mainstream female pop star who is comparable to Tina is Anastacia.
But if it is who's voice is representative of the last 10 years then Beyonce's yer girl.
I was listening to Ana earlier! Her voice is like a force of nature, hope she is getting better too!
I agree Christina is very talented.
Its just a shame she has such a bad attitude, or maybe she would be in a better place in her career.
Like the brilliant Mary J Blige once said: "I don't like her, because she has a nasty attitude. Britney Spears can't sing like you, but she will go farther than you because she knows how to respect and treat her people...from fans to supporters. She (Christina) was just very nasty"
Shows a good voice can bring you so far, but not the full way, as the flops Bionic and Lotus have proven.
No it can be for anyone you think has a decent pair of chops on them
(he he he he he)
