Sunday 28th September - BBC One

    The Football League Show

One oddity (well I thought it was) I've only just noticed when the FLS show the league tables is that only Cambridge United get the full team name treatment for League Two, with others just listing the Town/City (eg. Exeter, Northampton, Oxford). Why is this?

The New Saints v Newtown (Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League)

Nicky John hosts(-ed) from Park Hall, with Osian Roberts (dressed like he's off to a Wedding reception) to talk about the game (v. briefly, and other matters). Commentary is from Mike Davies and Malcolm Allen, with Mark Jones and Tommi Morgan on the english language red button duty.

At half time, they showed highlights of Wrexham's game against Eastleigh, as well as some goals from the midweek games in La Liga, and head back to the 'Clwb' studio for a Ryder Cup update, which left barely 2 minutes for Nicky and Osian to have a say about the game they were at.

Despite Sgorio supposed to begin at 1245, it started at 1250 as the 'Clwb' programme would show goals from the Welsh Premier League games played on Friday / Saturday. Surely its not too much for Nicky to present that section?

Alan Green trended on Twitter last night, the reviews as predicted were mixed but it wasn't all negative, probably 50/50. After 30 years of radio and with little or no TV experience, you'd expect maybe him to talk a bit much, he is a good broadcaster so I'm sure he'll adapt if this is a regular gig and he's not just covering.

Peter Drury was the same when he first transferred to TV, describing everything you could see.

But at 62 this is a late change for Alan Green. It will be interesting to see if this is the start of a new opportunity or just to provide more flexibility in how the BBC can rotate their radio and TV commentators.

To be honest I cant really see the point, BBC have many decent commentators on TV so at his age Radio commentary should be his main stay.

Currently watching it as I'm doing BBC highlights for the game. Just on twitter in the last 2 weeks - if any one wishes to follow me - 'pwmcomms'.

    Cheers, Paul Mitchell

I expected a Z list lineup of Yorke & Quinn etc. Looks like it's Hawthorne & Quinn tomorrow night which will no doubt please all Newcastle fans

I thought Parry would do tomorrow night so Hawthorne will be doing games 2 nights in a row

I think it will be Provan tomorrow as he wasn't on yesterday. It makes no sense to have Ed, Carragher and Neville on West Brom v Burnley and Jones, Redknapp and Campbell on Arsenal v Spurs!

But both presenters are set in stone for each time slot & SNF Redknapp's show (whether you like it or not!)

It's probably down to logistics so so Neville and/or Carragher can get Saturday off, watch their respective teams play and geography wise it makes sense

Presumbly rights might not allow and if it come out of Alba's budget why should they bother when it's budget is to provide programming in Gaelic? I suspect BBC Scotland money is going towards the Pro 12 rights rather than just Alba money which is why you get it there that or it's at request of the Pro 12. S4C do it to boost advertising revenues and I suspect it would be hard for Alba to get the red button time for it's highlights shows.

Goodness gracious, criticism of Alan Green?

I love Alan Green (a minority view on here but perhaps local bias on my part) but for the most part he sounded like he was still on the radio, which is understandable.

Gullit is an excellent addition to the MOTD roster of commentators - one of the best pundits around for my money, both in the UK and his native Netherlands.

I know Alan Green is marmite, and he did probably talk a little too much, however, what I love about him is that he has real opinions and you always know it is him when he's commentating. I must say I find many of the MOTD commentators so bland as to be inseparable (Roder, Fisher, Bower, Mann) and so I welcome Green getting a go on MOTD, at least he keeps it interesting!

Indeed, Green doesn't commentate using the same rotation of cliches that many of the others do.
