I thought I'd just put a selection as a heads up for anyone who fancied checking one or two out as much as anything, but if pushed I'd probably favour Yo La Tengo. Still listen to selected tracks on all though.

Dated? You were lucky didn't include the Family Cat and Ten Benson :p I suppose a lot of (especially early) 90's indie guitar music sounds a bit dated now but on the plus side so many of those songs create a kind of Proustian rush that it's hard not to listen to them fondly :)

Good choice, melodic but a little repetitive.
I have listened to a good lot from the thread.

Another thing for the people mentioning neutral milk hotel, they are playing some UK dates in may, in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin

Along with the almost requisite Manics (THB) and Suede (DMS), A few faves from back in the day:

Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen we are Floating in Space
    Mansun - Six
    Curve - Doppelganger

    And they still sound mighty.

Forgot to mention a few of my favourites on 4AD earlier:

Leaves Me Blind - Underground Lovers
The Real Ramona - Throwing Muses
Joy 1967-1990 - Ultra Vivid Scene

Some great calls so far, especially Sugar, Blue Aeroplanes and Spiritualized. I'll go for Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque.

    Happy days. :-)

One of the best indie rock albums of the entire decade, to me, is Come's Eleven Eleven (1992). For years it was left out of print, now recently reissued. Brilliant album.

IMO early/mid 90s US independent guitar music was a very fertile time, Nirvana or no Nirvana.

Come, Sugar, Throwing Muses, Codeine, Bedhead, Scarce, Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, Rodan, Mazzy Star, Posies, Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, Polvo, Buffalo Tom, Dinosaur Jr, Unwound, Seam, Silkworm, Morphine, Band of Susans, Red House Painters, Afghan Whigs.

Agreed. Love anything involving Chris Brokaw.
