bruce hornsby/jan hammer

on the radio this morning, they played "the way it is" by bruce hornsby, which was a new track to me, although clearly a well known song. However, when I heard it, i thought the melody, particularly the very start sounded very similar to stuff Jan Hammer did for Miami vice.

I see they were both studied at Berklee.

Anyone any thoughts/info ?
