Just been thinking about it and it keeps improving, love or hate some of the shows, but some of them ae proving big hits in the UK.
Deal or No Deal
Come Dine With Me
Hollyoaks
Grand Designs
Location, Location
Inbetweeners
Alan Carr show
The Simpsons
Shameless
Now like I mentioned, some of you may love or hate them, but all are providing decent ratings for them. Just to think a few years ago C4 was absolute garbish.
Also not to mention they have some hit programmes on E4 too (Glee and Ugly Betty)
I think it's kind of refreshing to see in my view a channel improve as others decline. BBC is an absolute joke in my view.

C4 has had consistently low ratings over the last year and they really need to turn the channel around in 2011. It needs fresh programmes, fresh faces. I miss the Channel 4 of the 80s and 90s
But then again, you're only comparing it to BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Five, Sky1 and a couple hundred repeat channels, so it's the best, but not by a long shot..
Actually no, for variety, channel 4 are probably the best for that compared to any other channel on offer. They are offering a bit of everything to appeal to viewers. I cannot think of any other channel that offer what channel 4 are offering. For me its like they are a jack of all trades channel and not a specialist in any given field.
Seconded isn't what it used to be with interesting programming that wouldn't get aired elsewhere.
Heaven only knows what the OP is on about with that list of programs, Shameless was ruined about 2 series back for a start.
There's more to a 'good' channel than just putting bums on seats IMO, so I'm not so hung up on ratings.
Using that reasoning The Sun is actually a newspaper.
Plus you've got Misfits, Inbetweeners and Peep Show which I love. Plus 4oD is miles better than any other TV channel website I have come across so far.
If they moved Eastenders, Apprentice and X Factor over to C4 I'd probably not need the other channels!
Pretentious, overly expensive, overly long idents. You have to suffer through them (and what feels like an age) to get to a programme. They last for ages and all that money spent on them could (should) be spent on, oh I don't know...actual programming!
Then there is the enevitable 118 ads. After the three minute long ident you've just suffered through, yes now you've got to suffer those 118 tw*ts. Or some other 'sponser'.
Then before the programme has even shown it's opening sequence...there's more adverts! Certainly this is true when they showed Lost. I haven't watched anything on the channel since then.
99% of the channels programming is for snobs. Endless cookery shows / property shows. It has an extremely strange obsession for that fat lipped annoyance Jamie Oliver. And if it's not him it's old folks home escapee Noel Edmonds.
And the 1% of it's 'youth programming' consists of this smug faced cum bucket basically being smug and thinking he's funny.
On the one hand the channel is just as bad as any other when it comes to it's output. On the other hand channel 4 is infinitely worse. Because they should know better. They where specifically set up to provide an alternative.
Since 2001 they have completely, 100% failed to provide an alternative. But despite showing nothing but the most mainstream programming (something channel 4 are not supposed to do) and raking in money from commercials and sponsers (as if there's a difference) they still have the unbelievable nerve to approach the government for money (your money!) under the guise of being a public service broadcaster. You couldn't make it up.
The people running channel 4 since 2001 have completely obliterated channel 4.
The real channel 4 never in a million years would have shown Richard and Judy. Or Paul O Grady. It's the new ITV / channel 5.
I actually read all that and it made no more sense on the 3rd attempt than the 1st.
The C4 of today is so far removed from it’s original remit (to provide alternative programming) that it might as well rename itself because it has **** all to do with the channel it began as. Lest we forget this is the same channel that used to put Kenneth Anger films and arts programming on Saturday mornings as oppsed to the teen shite they inflict on the nation now. It chases ratings more assiduously than anyone else, is pandering, sensationalist, cheap and nasty. Were it not for the peerless 7pm News and the True Stories strand it would be entirely dispensible, especially now they’ve gotten rid of The Daily Show on More4. And as to the OP slagging the Beeb whilst praising C4.....BBC4 all on it’s own beats anything C4 do on any given day and just to keep it seasonal, there would have been no Xmas telly this year if the BBC, as usual, hadn’t made the effort and programmed a whole load of specials for the festive period.
It’s surely no accident that C4 is one digit away from those other shitpeddlers, Five, on the dial - Both cut from the same shabby cloth. In retrospect we should have read more into the fact that their first programme ever on air was some shitty game-show, Countdown.
Surely this has to be a joke thread????
However, these days the reality genre has practically died on it's feet, poor US imports that are quickly bumped off to a graveyard slot, too many niche documentaries, overkill on their few cult hit shows. Basically, the channel doesn't know what it should be and neither does the audience at home.
Channel 4's ratings have gone through the floor and things won't improve until they start commissioning better, more mainstream programmes that people want to watch. The channel is a mess which is such a shame because I used to watch it a lot, not anymore though.
Blossoming? Have you seen some of their ratings in the last 4 or 5 months?
BB gave them 3-4m viewers everynight through the whole summer. I think they will come to regret ditching it.
Theyve also bought the US version of one of its most popular shows, Shameless. How about spending that money on the UK version or another UK made show? Weird decision.
It's focussed so much on the core audience for it's stupid trash-tastic endlessly shown dimwitted programmes that the general audience has become repelled.
I like the "Big Fat Quiz of the Year" and I will watch it in Jan, but I will feel dirty in so doing since CH4 has become such a moronville.
Even stuff with Kirsty and Phil is dim stuff for dimboids.
And they are to cancel "The Daily Show" on More4 which just says it all about where this network is going.
It still makes the odd gem, but its core offering is some of the most pointless programming in UK television.
Gutted they'll be no more BB this summer though
And in doing so has attracted an all new audience.
Barely worth watching now.
